Lakers Blank Mustangs in Men's Ice Hockey

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men's Ice Hockey team defeated conference opponent Morrisville 5-0 on the road this evening. Steven Kozikoski held the Mustangs off the scoreboard and earned his fourth shutout on the year, saving all 12 shots he faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a hard-fought and scrappy first period, the Lakers and Mustangs were at a 0-0 draw.
  • Oswego put up 15 shots compared to Morrisville's three, but  were unable to capitalize. The Lakers also won the faceoff battle 10-7.
  • The second frame was much of the same to start, as the Lakers hammered 10 shots in the period's first nine minutes. 
  • At the 13:17 mark in the period, Sophomore Connor Sleeth got the scoring started for the Lakers, tallying his sixth goal on the year.
  • Junior Ryan Bunka and sophomore Alex DiCarlo added assists on the play.
  • Four minutes later at 17:02, senior captain Travis Broughman scored his eleventh goal of the season with a feed from sophomore Ryan Dickinson, putting the Lakers up 2-0.
  • To finish off the period, DiCarlo put Oswego up 3-0, netting his twelfth goal of the season.
  • Bunka added his second assist of the night and junior Troy Robillard tallied his first.
  • Oswego continued their offensive pressure into the third period, scoring their fourth goal of the contest at the 6:51 mark. 
  • Broughman tacked on his second goal of the game thanks to a smooth deke in front of the net.
  • DiCarlo put up his third point of the game on the 2-on-1 fast break that led to Broughman's goal.
  • Kozikoski and the Laker defense held Morrisville at bay for the rest of the game, securing the shutout.
  • The Lakers dominated the statsheet, putting up 51 shots, 35 shots on goal, and winning 36 faceoffs. 

WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego State will stay on the road for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on Friday, February 18 versus the Fredonia Blue Devils.
