Baseball Takes Down #11 Rowan Profs

DAVENPORT, FL  – The Oswego State Baseball team continued their success in Florida taking out the #11 Rowan Profs. The top three batters for the Lakers accounted for eight of the ten runs scored. Tammaro (4), Enos (2) and Lauria (2). 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 10, #11 Rowan 5

Records:  Oswego 7-2, Rowan 5-2 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Paul Tammaro initiated the 1st inning with a single and advanced to second. Tammaro then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. 
  • Ryan Enos earned the first RBI of the contest on a fielder's choice to second base, scoring Tammaro. 
  • After two and a half scoreless innings for both teams, Rowan opened their scoring in the fourth inning. 
  • Rowan concluded the fourth inning up 4-1. 
  • The Lakers started the top of the fifth inning with a single from Anthony Barone
  • Tammaro in his second at bat ripped a double, advancing Barone to third base. 
  • Enos earned his second RBI of the contest on a sacrifice fly, scoring Barone. 
  • Kyle Lauria reached first on an error by the shortstop, Tammaro scored on the play, bringing the Lakers within one run.
  • Lukas Olsson singled. In a double steal attempt, Olsson was successful but Lauria was caught at third in a short-lived rundown as he was tagged out by the Rowan catcher to end the fifth inning (4-3). 
  • Into the top of the seventh inning the game remained 4-3 in favor of Rowan. 
  • With two outs, the Lakers had the top of the lineup to the plate with Tammaro. 
  • Tammaro commenced what turned out to be a HUGE two-out rally for the Green and Gold. 
  • Enos was hit by a pitch, advancing Tammaro to second. 
  • Rowan made their second pitching change of the inning after Enos was hit. 
  • Lauria singled, scoring Tammaro and earning the game-tying RBI. 
  • Olsson was intentionally walked to load the bases. 
  • Julian Drew singled, gaining back the lead with Enos and Lauria scoring (6-4). 
  • After a huge offensive inning and the momentum swaying in the Lakers' direction, they continued the momentum switch with a one, two, three inning in the bottom of the seventh. 
  • Rowan's Levin came in to relieve in the top of the eighth inning. 
  • Jacob Levine singled off of the fresh relief pitcher and then advanced to second off a passed ball with Andrew Gallagher at the plate. 
  • Gallagher singled as well, but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it to a double after the relay throw came to the shortstop. Levine advanced to third. 
  • Barone earned an RBI on a fielder's choice, scoring Levine from third base. 
  • Tammaro reached on an error by the second baseman, he eventually stole second base. 
  • Enos was hit by a pitch for the second time in the contest. 
  • With Lauria up and runners on first and third, Lauria tripled to score Enos and Tammaro, making it a five run ball game (9-4). 
  • Olsson walked for the second time in the contest. 
  • Up next was Drew, he singled, earning an RBI scoring Lauria. 
  • Olsson was thrown out at second base from center field to end the Lakers huge half of the inning. 
  • Oswego had another strong defensive inning only allowing one hit. 
  • Going into the final frame Jared Kwicinski relieved Ben Wilcox
  • Kwicinski's first batter faced doubled. 
  • The second batter of the inning flied out to center field. 
  • Rowan added another run off of a wild pitch, bringing them within five (10-5). 
  • With no one on base the Lakers hopes were looking strong. Kwicinski retired the next two batters with a strikeout and a groundout to short to take down the #11 Nationally Ranked Profs of Rowan.
  • Kieran Finnegan went five innings only allowing four runs on four hits. 
  • Ben Wilcox threw three innings allowing only one run on one hit. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego State will continue their spring break by heading to Auburndale, Florida March 15th to take on Salve Regina at 2:00 p.m.
