Lakers Defeat #18 Shenandoah For Third Straight

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Oswego State Baseball team defeated #18 ranked Shenandoah for the second straight day. Lukas Olsson went 2-4 with three RBI's for the Lakers.  Shenandoah didn't go quietly as in the ninth inning they had a surge, winning run at the plate and the tying run on second. Connor VanDreason came in and struck out the final batter of the contest.

  • Location:  Bridgeforth Field, Shenandoah University, Winchester, Va.

  • Records:  Oswego 4-2, Shenandoah 10-2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ryan Enos continued his tear in the beginning of the 2022 campaign, doubling down the left field line, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. 

  • Olsson up next, was hit by a pitch, making it first and third. 

  • Olsson stole second base, beating the throwdown. 

  • Senior Ryan Weiss was also hit by a pitch, loading the bases. 

  • With two outs, Julian Drew was walked to bring in the first run of the contest. 

  • The Hornets got out of the inning with minimal damage, only allowing the one run. Oswego left three on base. 

  • The Lakers started right where they left off in the first inning, Aiden Gallagher singled to left center field. 

  • Paul Tammaro also continued his early season success, doubling as Gallagher advanced to third. 

  • Enos was hit by a pitch in his second at bat to load the bases for the second occurrence in the contest for Oswego. 

  • Olsson got on a pitch with a bases clearing double, earning three RBI's to bring the Laker lead to four runs. 

  • Shenandoah's starting pitcher was taken out of the game after the bases-clearing hit by Olsson. 

  • Shenandoah hit a single shot to right field to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning.

  • Enos drove in his first RBI of the contest with a single to left field, scoring Tammaro. 

  • In the top of the fifth inning, Kyle Lauria hit his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to right center field, giving the Green and Gold a five-run lead (6-1).

  • After a single by Drew and a drawn walk by Tishawn Featherstone, Gallagher knocked in his first RBI of the day.

  • Shenandoah added another run in the top of the sixth inning, resulting in a 7-2 scoreboard in favor of the Lakers. 

  • Jared Kwicinski came in for Jai Sharma in the sixth inning after five innings pitched, 79 total pitches, four strikeouts and two only allowing two runs. 

  • Wllcox came in to pitch for Kwicinski with two outs in the sixth inning. 

  • The Hornets added two runs in the inning to bring the score within three (7-4). 

  • In top seven Julian Drew singled down the left field line, Gallagher walked, Christian McCarthy pinch hit for Brian Brezosky and reached on an error, scoring Gallagher and Drew. This brought the lead back to five.

  • In the bottom of the seventh inning the Hornets made a surge to get back in the game. 

  • The Hornets tripled with one out and scored their fifth run. Their sixth run was scored on a fielding error. 

  • After a batter was hit by a pitch, the Hornets had runners on second and third, the tying run at the plate.

  • Wilcox struck out the third batter, keeping the damage to only two runs (9-6). 

  • In the eighth inning Lauria knocked in Olsson after he doubled to right field. 

  • The Hornets scored one in the eighth and in the ninth to bring them within two runs. 

  • With one out and the tying run on second base Connor VanDreason came in to relieve Devin Campbell

  • VanDreason got the Lakers out of the jam with a ground out and a strikeout in the bottom of the ninth, with the Hornets leaving three runners on base. 
  • Jai Sharma earned the win and Connor VanDreason earned a save for Oswego. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will head to Florida where they will have seven games in six days. Beginning with Ramapo College on March 13 at 10:30am.
