Women's Lacrosse Holds Off New Paltz Comeback

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team was victorious in a close one against New Paltz. Sophomore Shae McConnell and junior Madison Davis both scored a hat trick. Oswego's defense was able to fight off a fourth quarter comeback attempt by New Paltz. The Lakers held on to win 9-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Q1

  • Logan Castiglione opened up the scoring for Oswego from a successful clear attempt as 9:55 remained in the quarter.
  • Julia Quirk doubled Oswego's lead to 2-0 after scoring a free position goal two minutes later
  • The Laker defense held New Paltz scoreless in the quarter.

Q2

  • Sela Wiley set up a Madison Davis goal to extend the Lakers lead to 3-0, Davis picked up her 11th goal of the season.
  • New Paltz got on the board off of a clear attempt with 10:28 left on the clock. 
  • Castiglione assisted Davis for her second goal of the game, Lakers lead 4-1. 
  • 7:24 was on the clock when New Paltz picked up a ground ball and scored. 
  • New Paltz scored again three minutes later to bring themselves within one, this put the Lakers up 4-3.
  • New Paltz tied the game up with 2:50 left on the clock.
  • Oswego reclaimed the lead after Shae McConnell scored a goal, this put the Lakers up 5-4.

  • New Paltz scored a minute later to make the score 7-5 in favor of Oswego.
  • McConnell completed her hat trick giving her 15 goals on the season, 11:39 remained. 
  • New Paltz scored two goals within two minutes to make the score 9-8 in favor of Oswego.
  • The last six minutes were scoreless for both teams.
