HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • The first inning went quietly for both teams, as Laker starting pitcher Kieran Finnegan escaped with a runner in scoring position.

  • Oswego struck first in the second inning off the bat of Weiss, hitting a solo jack to deep center field to make it 1-0.

  • Cortland answered in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits to pull the Red Dragons ahead, 2-1.

  • Weiss struck again in the bottom of the inning, this time with a two-run shot to mirror his longball in the second inning and put the Lakers up 3-2.

  • The Laker lead didn't last long however, as a couple of errors and timely Red Dragon hits in the fifth put Cortland up 6-3.

  • The Lakers would get one back in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Weiss, plating Paul Tammaro after he reached on an error.

  • Once again, Cortland would respond by putting up two in the top of the sixth to extend the Red Dragon lead, 8-4.

  • Oswego quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with no outs thanks to three straight singles from Julian Drew, Tishawn Featherstone, and CJ McCarthy

  •  Cortland recorded two outs in a row to follow, but Lukas Olsson blasted a grand slam to even the score 8-8 before the Red Dragons could escape the inning.

  • The Lakers kept the momentum going into the seventh, putting runners on first and third but failed to score against great Cortland pitching.

  • Cortland took an 11-8 advantage in the top of the eighth inning off of two hits and two errors.

  • Oswego started to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring one run on a Drew single, but ultimately came up short and fell to Cortland 11-9.

  • Sean Dertinger had a great relief outing, only allowing one earned run and striking out three over 3.1 innings.

Game 2

  • Like the first game, Oswego got on the board first after Weiss and Drew slapped back-to-back singles to put the Lakers up 2-0.

  • Brockport retaliated in the top of the third inning, putting up two runs of their own and evening the score at two a-piece.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Frank Levanti belted a two-out single and reached third on an error, later scoring on a balk by the Brockport right-hander

  • Again, Brockport would answer with a run of their own in the top of the fifth to even the score at three.

  • Both teams went through the sixth inning quietly before Brockport hit back-to-back solo home runs and scored another run  in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead.

  • A Weiss single with two outs would plate fellow senior Ryan Enos and cut the Golden Eagle lead to 6-4.

  • Brockport continued to counter every Lakers run, this time putting up four runs in the top of the eighth to go up 10-4.

  • In the ninth, the Golden Eagles continued to pour it on, extending their lead, 12-4.

  • The Lakers would go down quietly, resulting in a 12-4 final score.
