OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Volleyball team took on two out of conference opponents this afternoon at the Penn St. Behrend Invitational. Oswego fell in both matches today in close fashion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

Grove City scored seven of the first ten points of the contest, going up 7-3.

Oswego couldn't seem to get a run together in the beginning of the set, finding themselves down 14-7.

With a three point run for the Lakers, taking advantage of the Wolverines offensive mistakes, they were only down by five points (17-12).

Grove City went on another four point run to bring the Lakers to a deficit of 21-12, the biggest lead of the match.

The Wolverines got to set point, leading by eight points, this is where the Lakers' grit and determination came into play.

The Green and Gold would not take no as an answer as Georgia Farry and Emily Zeisler took control in the final stretch of the set.

Ferry started an eight point run for the Lakers with a kill and a HUGE block to keep her team in it.

Zeisler picked up off of this energy earning THREE service aces in a row to bring them within three.

Oswego once again took advantage of the Wolverines mistakes with two straight attack errors, bringing it to a one point set.

McKenna Corbin came up HUGE with a kill for the Lakers, tying the contest at 24 a side.

The Wolverines then took advantage of the Lakers' offensive mistakes, earning their 25th point on a service error and ultimately taking the first set 26-24 on the next serve.

The Wolverines rolled their momentum into the second set, going up 7-2.

Oswego saw themselves behind 10-4 and realized it was time to make a run.

With a seven-point run. the Lakers took their first lead of the set 11-10.

With back and forth between offenses, the Green and Gold had a set-changing run of four points, putting them ahead 22-18.

Grove City then got the game within one (23-22), Cara Simplicio had a huge kill to get the Lakers to set point, with the assist from McKenna Corbin.

Grace Taylor and Corbin ended the set with an enormous block, tying the contest at one set a side.

Set three was more of the same, both offenses went at each other with back to back points multiple times, the Wolverines went on a set-changing run of their own with the game at 20-19 in favor of the Wolverines.

Grove City closed the third set with a four point run, giving them a five-point advantage (24-20).

Emma Fiorentine and Farry came up with another huge block, unfortunately it was not enough as the Wolverines ended the set on the next serve.

The fourth set was not any different than the previous three as the Lakers had a seven point run, after getting down 7-3 in the set, taking the lead 11-7.

Grove City then scored three straight to get within one.

This set was tied EIGHT times throughout.

The Wolverines went on a four-point run to end the final set of the match.
Game 2
-
Host team Penn St. Behrend took a quick 2-0 lead on Oswego with scores of 25-16 and 25-19.

In the third set, the Green and Gold got up on the home team 7-2.

After a three-point run to bring the Lions within two (8-6), the Lakers went on a four-point run of their own, bringing the contest to 12-6.

With a 20-16 set, the Lakers finished it out with a five point run.

The fourth set was very close as both teams would not allow the other team to run away with it.

Eight consecutive points went back and forth, bringing the set to 14-12 in favor of the Lions.

Oswego was the first team in the set to go on a run, picking up five straight points to go up 17-14.

With a score of 19-15, the Lions then took a run of their own, earning four straight points, tying the contest.

With the set coming to a close, the Lakers forced the pressure on Behrend, once again forcing mistakes on the opposition's offense, finishing the set on two consecutive attack errors at the Lions expense.

In the final set to 15, Oswego earned five straight points after Behrend took the first point.

The Lions did not take acception to that as they went on a seven point run, taking back the lead.

Oswego and Behrend then exchanged three point runs to bring the final set to 10-8 in favor of Behrend.

Oswego tied the set at 10 a piece just before Behrend went on a three point run to bring the final set to 13-10 in their favor.

The Lakers fought hard, but ultimately fell after two straight points by the Lions, 15-10 was the final set score.

WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego will stay at Penn State Behrend for the second day of the tournament where they will take on the Geneva College Tornadoes at 1:00PM and the Washington and Jefferson Presidents at 3:00PM. This will be the first matchup for Oswego State against either of these teams in Women's Volleyball.
