OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Volleyball team snatched a pair of wins on the final day of the Penn-State Behrend tournament this afternoon, defeating Washington and Jefferson as well as Geneva 3-1 and 3-2, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

The first set went back and forth, as the Lakers found themselves down 8-11 to the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva.

After an Emma Fiorentine kill, Geneva went on an 11-1 run to break the set open 22-9.

Oswego would muster three points after a McKenna Corbin ace and kills by Fiorentine and Georgia Farry, but would drop the set 25-12.

The second set was much more intense, as both teams battled back and forth.

A Geneva three-point run in the middle of the set was quickly answered by Oswego with a three-point run of their own, highlighted by kills from Farry and Cara Simplicio, as well as a service error by Geneva to put the Lakers up 12-11.

With a 17-16 lead, Oswego would go on another three-point run off of kills from Farry and Sydney Chiffriller and topped off with a Corbin ace to put the Lakers up 20-16.

Geneva would later answer with their own run, this of six points to take a 24-22 lead.

Oswego kept fighting, taking a 25-24 lead, but eventually falling in the second set 30-28.

Set three started the same as set two - both teams battling back and forth for the first 12 points.

Geneva then went on a seven-point run to take a commanding 14-5 lead.

Oswego's persistent offense rattled off a 17-8 run, notting up the game at 22 and racking up eight kills in the process.

Two kills by Chiffriller and two attack errors by Geneva led the Lakers to taking the third set, 25-23.

Oswego carried their momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 7-0 lead thanks to kills from Fiorentine (2), Chiffriller, and Grace Taylor.

Geneva skated closer, retaliating with a 6-1 run of their own to pull within two.

Three kills and two aces was Oswego's response, again taking a commanding lead 13-6.

After three straight Geneva points, Emily Zeisler recorded two aces in a 5-0 run for the Lakers.

Oswego would go on to take the set 25-17, forcing set five.

Three straight kills from Taylor, Fiorentine, and Chiffriller put Oswego up 3-0 in the fifth set.

Geneva would pull within one, but the turning point was a 5-0 run by Oswego who would eventually win the final set 15-11.
Game 2

Washington and Jefferson quickly got out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and never looked back

An ace by Kaylee Troy and a kill by Taylor would tie the game at 10 before the Presidents proceeded to pull away on a 8-2 run.

Oswego kept it close, but ultimately fell in the first set 25-20.

Three kills by Farry would put the Lakers up 6-3 in the second set, but a Presidents' 11-1 run made it a 14-7 game.

A string of runs by Oswego would eventually tie the game at 20, highlighted by nine kills from the Laker offense.

Two straight aces from Taylor would cap off a 26-24 set two victory by Oswego.

Simplicio started to take over in the third set, notching three kills in the Lakers' first seven points.

A President's 6-0 run would put them up 17-11, but Oswego was not out yet.

Oswego pulled the game within five before going on a 8-1 run to close out a 25-23 set victory, capped off by a Corbin ace.

Set four was deadlocked at 9 apiece before a Washington and Jefferson 5-0 run put the Presidents in front.

An Oswego 9-2 run was the retaliation en route to a 18-15 lead.

Lakers never looked back, securing the 25-23 victory after an Ally Natale ace.

Oswego State will travel back north and start conference play, stopping in Cortland on Tuesday September 13th for a 6:00 PM matchup vs the Red Dragons
