CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Volleyball was defeated three sets to none vs SUNYAC opponent Cortland this evening. Cara Simplicio and Sydney Chiffriller each racked up seven kills in the contest, while McKenna Corbin put up a game-high 22 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Oswego started the first set off with a kill from Grace Taylor and an attack error by Cortland to go up 2-0.

The Red Dragons would respond with an 11-1 run, taking a 11-3 lead early.

Two kills from Chiffriller and an ace from Emily Zeisler would bring the Lakers back in the game later on at 21-18.

Down 23-19, Oswego would go on a 3-0 run thanks to two Taylor aces, to pull within one, but would eventually fall in set one.

Cortland would again start off fast in set two, taking a 9-3 lead and carrying momentum from the first.

Kills by Olivia Bunn and Zeisler plus an attack error by Cortland would spark a 3-0 run for the Lakers.

Cortland responded quickly, rattling off five straight points and increasing their lead to 15-8.

Oswego would muster 15 points, but fell again in set two by a score of 25-15.

A service error and a Taylor ace would again give the Lakers a 2-0 lead to start the third frame.

Again, the Red Dragons would respond with a run of their own, this time of five points to pull ahead 5-2.

Oswego eventually pulled out to a 9-8 lead off of a Chiffriller kill.

The rest of the contest was a back and forth battle, with the Red Dragons again pulling out ahead 25-17, sweeping the Lakers in all three sets.

Taylor led both squads with four aces and four blocks in the contest.

Corbin, Zeisler, and Kaylee Troy topped Oswego's dig category, putting up nine, five, and five, respectively.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego will finally return home for their first home matches of the season on Friday at the Oswego State Invitational. The Lakers will play Utica at 4:00 PM and Medaille at 6:00 PM to kick off the annual tournament.
