OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Volleyball Team earned a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Utica and Medaille in their first home action of 2022 during their annual Oswego State Invitational. Senior
McKenna Corbin led Oswego with 48 assists, 15 digs and six aces across the two matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match 1 – Utica
- The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the opening set and held a 21-14 advantage late.
- A 6-1 run highlighted by a pair of aces from sophomore Emily Zeisler closed the gap to 22-20.
- Utica got a sideout to make it 23-20 before a kill from sophomore Cara Simplicio and a four-point service run by junior Nyah Dias put Oswego up 1-0 in the match.
- In set two, Oswego took the early lead at 13-7 and then Zeisler went on a seven-point service run to extend out to 22-8.
- Kills by senior Sydney Chiffriller, Simplicio and junior Olivia Bunn closed out the set at 25-10.
- The teams were close in the third set, trading points up to 20-20.
- Oswego finished the match behind Madison Gordon's serving and kills by junior Georgia Farry and Corbin.
- Farry led the Lakers with 10 kills and a .563 hitting percentage while Corbin had 18 assists.
- Simplicio added seven kills and seven digs and Chiffriller also had six put-aways.
- Junior Grace Taylor led the defense with six blocks and junior Kaylee Troy was tied for the team lead with seven digs.
Match 2 – Medaille
- In the nightcap, Oswego started strong in going up 11-4 led by three kills from Chiffriller.
- After the Mavericks closed to 17-15, senior Ally Natale started with an ace and served the Lakers out to 22-15.
- Kills by Simplicio and senior Emma Fiorentine closed out set one at 25-20.
- The second set was close throughout, but behind Simplicio's six kills and five from Chiffriller, Oswego won again by 25-20.
- Medaille went up 12-5 early in the third set before a pair of kills from senior Sarah Stratton helped close the lead back to 12-9.
- The Lakers would eventually tie the game at 20-20 and use four Maverick errors in the final five points to earn the 3-0 sweep.
- Simplicio finished with a 15-kill, 11-dig double-double and Chiffriller had 12 kills.
- Corbin had 30 assists and eight digs while Troy hit double digits again with 10 digs.

The Lakers remain at home on Saturday for Day 2 of their Oswego Invitational with an 11 a.m. match with SUNY Canton and a 1 p.m. tilt with St. Lawrence.
