Lakers Earn Ninth Win Over Wildcats 3-0

CAZENOVIA, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Volleyball team defeated The Cazenovia Wildcats, three sets to zero in a non-conference matchup this evening. Grace Taylor and Sydney Chiffriller added 10 and 7 Kills, respectively. Meanwhile, McKenna Corbin continued to set her teammates up for success, earning 20 assists on the night. 

THE BASICS

Final Scores: Oswego 3, Cazenovia 0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16)

Location: Upper Gym (Competition Gymnasium), Cazenovia, N.Y. 

Records: Oswego State (8-6) ,  Cazenovia (4-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Oswego earned their first point of the game with a kill from Georgia Farry assisted by McKenna Corbin to match Cazenovia with a score of 1-1.

  • The game remained close early in the first match, until Oswego pulled through with a 5-0 run sparked by a kill from Cara Simplicio

  • A kill by Cazenovia depleted the Oswego lead, making it a score of 19-16. 

  • Oswego stayed hot late in the first set, eventually winning the set 25-18 off an ace from Nyah Dias

  • Cazenovia took an early lead in the second set, going up 2-1 off of a kill. 

  • Oswego responded quickly, taking the lead from an attack error from Cazenovia; Oswego would maintain this lead the rest of the set. 

  • Oswego played great defense throughout the second set, a block from Grace Taylor and Simplicio gave the Lakers the 6-3 lead, which gave their squad the momentum.  

  • Oswego would go on to win the second set by a score of 25-16. Dias set up Simplicio for the kill, solidifying the second set for the Lakers.

  • A service ace from Kaylee Troy gave Oswego an early 5-2 lead in the third set, a lead that they would again maintain for the rest of the final set. 

  • Up 20-13 late in the third, Olivia Bunn and Taylor each earned a block assist, this was Taylor's fourth block of the contest. 

  • Two service errors from Cazenovia eventually gave Oswego the final upperhand. Oswego would go on to win the final set 25-16 and the match 3-0. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will finally return home to Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday, September 23rd at 6:00 PM for a conference matchup against the Cardinals of Plattsburgh. The action will continue on Saturday, where the Lakers will face SUNY Potsdam at 1:00 PM in Max Ziel.
