Kane Secures 100th Career Win Over Pioneers 2-1

UTICA, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men's Soccer team bounced back this evening in a non-conference matchup against the Utica University Pioneers. Kyle Gehnrich and newcomer Jason Wuytack added the goals for the Lakers. Coach Dan Kane secured his 100th career victory in this afternoon's contest! Congratulations Coach Kane!

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers and Pioneers were back and forth between their respective offensive zones, after eight shots by both teams combined, Utica struck first at 29:20 in the first half.

  • The first half ended with a grade-A chance by Nikola Kovacevic. This came directly off of a corner kick from Brendan Murphy

  • Oswego started the second half with three straight corner kicks. 

  • Within a minute after the borrage of corner kicks, the Lakers put two shots up, one being blocked and the other hitting the post. 

  • Just twelve seconds after hitting the post, Gehnrich put the Lakers on the board with his third goal of the season. Kieran Gilroy assisted the tally. 

  • The Green and Gold continued to put the pressure on after their goal with five scoring chances in the next 15 minutes of play, Utica was able to keep them off the board in this time frame. 

  • Just after minutes of Utica flipping the script on the Lakers, putting on their own offensive pressure, Oswego's Wuytack scored the deciding goal at 85:56.  

  • Goalkeeper Andre Bourjolly finished the contest with six saves. 

  • The Lakers took advantage of the opportunities given as they only had three shots on goal in the contest. 

  • Oswego had 13 corner kicks in the contest, compared to Utica's three. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will travel north to Potsdam, N.Y.  as they will take on the Potsdam Bear for a conference matchup which will take place on Saturday, October 1 for a 1:00PM start.
