Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downed by #23 Montclair State

WASHINGTON, D.C.  –  The Oswego State Men's Soccer team was relentless all game long, but ultimately fell short to the #23 Montclair State University RedHawks, 1-0. The Laker offense piled up 13 shots in the game, including three on goal.  

THE BASICS

Final Score: Montclair State 1, Oswego State 0. 

Location:  Carlini Field, Washington, D.C.

Records: Montclair State (1-0-1), Oswego State (0-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In what turned out to be a gritty game overall, Montclair State struck first at the 9:48 mark in the first half, scoring on a header off of a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. 

  • Three minutes later, the RedHawks had another opportunity to score on a penalty kick, but junior goalie Matt D'Arpino shut down the chance with a save. 

  • The Oswego offense rattled off three shots towards the end of the first half, but failed to capitalize.

  • D'Arpino recorded four saves in the first half for the Lakers, while Kyle Gehnrich led the squad with four shots. 

  • Within the first ten minutes of the second half, Derek Rivera and Jason Wuytack tallied shots but couldn't find the back of the net.

  • After two yellow cards in the first half, another three cards in the second half proved how intense the contest was on both sides. 

  • Oswego received five corner kicks in the contest  and forced 17 RedHawk fouls, but came up short at the final buzzer, 1-0. 

  • Also adding shots in the game were Jean Pierre Moquillaza, Chris Smith, HaJoon Lee, Zach Ward, Matthew Sturman, and Brendan Murphy.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego State will stay in our nation's capital to take on Baruch College tomorrow at 11:00 AM before heading back north Sunday afternoon.
