Men's Soccer Departs Nations Capital With A Win

WASHINGTON, D.C.  –  The Oswego State Men's soccer team dominated the Bearcats of Baruch in their final game in Washington D.C. this afternoon. The scoring started just 28 seconds into the contest for the Lakers as they were victorious 4-1. 

THE BASICS

Final Score:     Oswego State 4 , Baruch College 1  

Location:      Carlini Field, Washington, D.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just 28 seconds into the contest, the Lakers' Kyle Hanner took a shot that was blocked, resulting in a corner kick. 
  • At the 1:05 minute mark, Kyle Gehnrich scored his first goal of the season to put the Lakers up 1-0 early. 
  • After multiple shots back and forth between teams the Lakers' Jason Wuytack scored his first career goal in the Green and Gold off of a header, Chris Smith assisted the goal. 
  • From 28:18-31:26 the Lakers held complete control of the ball. Kieran Gilroy scored the Lakers' third goal at that 31:26 minute mark. 
  • This goal came directly after a corner kick that was off of the foot of Brendan Murphy
  • Oswego dominated in the shots category in the first half by a margin of 14-4. 
  • Baruch earned one back in the beginning of the second half from a header at the 56:58 minute mark.
  • Just one minute and three seconds later the Lakers scored another. This time Gehnrich connected with Smith for the goal. 
  • A beautiful touch from Gehnrich put Smith in a 1-on-1 position with the goalie and he made no mistake, putting it in the back of the net. 
  • A physical game as two yellow cards were dealt to the Bearcats in the second half, Oswego was able to keep a level head and come away with the 4-1 victory.
