MORRISVILLE, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Volleyball team played four games this weekend at the 2022 Mustang Tournament. The Lakers went 1-3 on the weekend with many positives to look at and build upon moving forward.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Day 1: 

Oswego State vs. Rowan University

• Oswego State took on Rowan in their first regular season matchup of the 2022 season. 
• In the end it did not go Oswego's way, falling three sets to one, on the other hand there were many positives to look at with the young Oswego squad. 
• In the contest the Lakers earned 18 aces in the four sets played to Rowan's ten. 
• Oswego also dominated the blocking category with 11 compared to Rowan's two blocks.
• The points percentage was in Rowan's favor by a slim 3% margin. 
• Emma Fiorentine (7), Grace Taylor (6) and Sydney Chiffriller (4) led the Lakers in kills. 
• Taylor also led the team in aces with eight, followed by Kaylee Troy (6) and Emily Zeisler (3). 
• Chiffriller led Oswego in blocks with four, followed by newcomer Caitie Lilly and Senior McKenna Corbin. Corbin also led the Lakers in assists with 23. 
• Troy led Oswego in digs with 18, followed by Chiffriller (11) and Zeisler (5). 

Oswego State vs. Morrisville State

• Directly following the Rowan contest the Lakers took on the Morrisville State Mustangs in their final contest of the day. 
• Oswego ultimately fell in three straight sets to the Mustangs, but not without a fight. 
• The Lakers ended the three set match with 21 kills, five aces, six blocks, 21 assists and 38 digs. 
• Leading in Kills was Fiorentine (7), Chiffriller (5) and Taylor (5).
• Fiorentine also led the team in aces (2), followed by Zeisler and Troy. 
• Taylor led the team in blocks, earning four of the teams six total blocks in the contest. 
• Corbin led the Lakers in the assists category, with all 21, while Ally Natale led the digs category with 13 followed by Troy (9) and Zeisler (6). 

Day 2:

Oswego State vs. Misericordia University 

• The Lakers woke up for the second day of the tournament looking for their first win of the season. 
• Unfortunately this would not come at the Cougars expense, Oswego took the second set but were unable to claw their way back after losing the first and third sets by five or less points. 
• Oswego took the edge in blocks, assists and blew away Misericordia in digs by a 72-58 margin. 
• The two teams battled and the pure equality of this match with kills being a dead tie at 36 a side was nothing to nod at. 
• Oswego kept their errors to a minimum with 13 compared to Misericordia's 19. 
• All four sets were within a six point margin, telling the closeness of the contest at hand. 
• Fiorentine continued to lead the Lakers in kills with nine, followed by Cara Simplicio (8) in her first match of the year and Chiffriller (7). 
• Corbin took the aces category into her own hands with four, followed by Troy (2) and Simplicio (2). 
• Corbin also snatched three blocks in the contest along with Taylor with two and Lilly with one. 
• Troy (24), Corbin (12) and Natale (11) took charge in the digs category for the Lakers. 
• McKenna Corbin set her career-high in set assists with 34 in this contest which she later defeated against Russell Sage College. 

Oswego State vs. Russell Sage College

• After falling in their third straight match to initiate the 2022 campaign, the Lakers were looking to earn their first victory over the Gators of Russell Sage College, they did this in five sets. 
• Looking sharp in the first set, winning 25-15, the Lakers then dropped the next two sets by two point margins (25-23,27-25). 
• The Green and Gold showed fight and grit to win the final two sets 25-16 and 15-12. A great first victory with Oswego State for Head Coach Toby Rens to look back on. 
• Georgia Farry made her first appearance of the 2022 campaign as she led the team in kills with 25, followed by Simplicio (9) and Fiorentine (8). 
• Corbin had a career-high in both of the two games on saturday with assists, Corbin trounced her career-high 34 set assists which was set just hours before against Misericordia. Corbin finished the contest with 52 set assists and ZERO errors. 
• Troy (21), Simplicio (12) and Natale (12) all contributed in the digs category for the Lakers in the victory.

Oswego will stay on the road for another non-conference matchup against the Wolves of Keuka on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00PM.
