Red Dragons Use Multiple Big Runs To Take Down Lakers

ONEONTA, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Basketball were outplayed by the Red Dragons of Oneonta, falling in their third straight SUNYAC contest.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 32 (11-5, SUNYAC 4-5), Oneonta 64 (12-4, SUNYAC 7-2) 

Location: Dewar Arena, Oneonta, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The game started off even until the Red Dragons got off to a 8-0 run on the Lakers, putting them up 12-4 early in the first quarter. 

  • After a few baskets each way, the first quarter ended with a 14-7 Oneonta lead. 

  • The Red Dragons started the second quarter where they left off, going on a 6-0 run to start the quarter to put them up 20-7 with 7:01 remaining in the half.

  • Oswego went on a 6-0 run of their own spanning from 4:50-3:18 remaining in the second quarter. 

  • The half ended with a score of 26-18 after a good layup by Elaina Johnson

  • The Lakers outshot the Red Dragons in the second quarter by an efficiency of 8%. 

  • Oneonta changed the pace of the game in the third quarter, scoring 22 straight points on the Lakers defense. Giving them a 30 point lead (48-18) 

  • The third quarter ended with two three pointers for the Green and Gold by Peyton Daeffler and Logan Castiglione, cutting the deficit to 24 going into the final quarter. 

  • Neither side in the fourth quarter dropped a basket until nearly three minutes into the final stanza. 

  • Oswego went on another 6-0 run, cutting the Red Dragons lead to 20 points with 5:42 remaining. 

  • Oneonta finished the contest with a 14-2 run, taking the victory by a score of 64-32. 

  • The game changing play analysis for the Red Dragons was their points off turnovers with 25 compared to the Lakers' five, their points in the paint with 36 compared to Oswego's 12 and their fast break was working with 20 points compared to Oswego's seven. 

  • Sydney Hoefs led the Lakers with nine points, going 4-5 from the field and grabbed eight defensive rebounds.

The women will travel to New Paltz to face the Hawks on January 21.
