HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Morrisville got out to the lead around ten minutes into the first period.

  • This after the first ten minutes was controlled by the Lakers in their offensive zone.

  • With Oswego getting off to a fast start and nothing to show for it, Sophia Kyrkostas took things into her own hands and netted a goal off the right post of the Morrisville net. This goal was assisted by Tessa Mucha

  • Oswego found their groove in the period, just over a minute later Lizzie Burke was assisted by Rachel Corbett and Grugin to go into the locker room with the one goal lead.

  • In the first period there were two penalties per side, neither team being able to capitalize on their powerplays.

  • Oswego led in the shots department by a margin of 13-9 in the period.

  • With the second period tilting the ice in the Lakers' favor, the score remained the same going into the final stanza of the NEWHL matchup.

  • Oswego outshot the Mustangs 15-4 in the period but were unable to put the puck in the net for a third time.

  • Morrisville had two penalties in the period to Oswego's one.

  • Grugin continued an impressive performance for the Green and Gold with a goal on the powerplay 16:51 into the final period of play. With a water bottle popping shot from the goal line, Grugin was the only one that was sure she had scored, the puck shot out of the net as fast as it had gone in, ultimately she had given her squad a two-goal lead down the stretch. Morgan Shines picked up her first point of the contest with great board play along with Mucha collecting her second assist of the contest.

  • Oswego was able to keep the Mustangs away from the net in the final minutes to secure the 3-2 victory.

  • Lexi Levy finished the contest with a total of 26 saves.
