Lakers Dominate Knights, Sparks Scores 1,000th Point

GENESEO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team traveled to Geneseo to take on the Knights this evening. The Lakers saw their 11 game win streak extend to 12 games in a row this evening following an explosive second half from beyond the arc. Jeremiah Sparks became the 19th Laker to record 1,000 career points this evening after leading the team with 26 points.

Final Score: Oswego State 100 (16-2, 10-1 SUNYAC), Geneseo 62 (7-10, 4-6 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers took the lead early on in the first half of play and held onto it going into the second half despite a late rally from the Knights.

  • The Knights went on a 8-2 run in the final three minutes of the first half to cut the Lakers lead to just one point. Oswego led 33-32 at the half.

  • Jeremiah Sparks was a force to be reckoned with, shooting over 65% from the field, while shooting 75% from beyond the arc. Sparks led the Lakers with 15 points at the end of the first half. Devin Green led the Lakers with six rebounds at the half. 

  • Oswego jumped out to a twelve point lead over the Knights just four minutes into the second half, leading 46-34. 

  • The Laker defense continued to cause the Knights to miss shots, as the Lakers continued to connect on their field goal attempts. After a Sparks three, the Lakers would lead 53-36, with Sparks having 26 points with 13 minutes remaining in the game. 

  • The Knights would add two points from the free-throw line, in which Joey Rowback would respond with a three of his own. 

  • Geneseo would take a timeout, trailing by 18 with 12 minutes and 30 seconds remaining. 

  • Oswego ended up dropping 100 points on the Knights as they extended their winning streak to 12 games. 

  • Sparks led the team with 26 points as he broke the 1,000 career points mark this evening while going 10 for 13 from the field. 

  • The Lakers had three other players record double-digit points this evening. Cartier Bowman finished with ten points, as well as Achille Anderson, and Joey Rowback finished with 19 points, including five three pointers.

  • Devin Green led the Lakers on the glass with eight rebounds on the evening. 

  • Luke VanSlyke went 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe, combining for eight points in just ten minutes played.

  • Rashawn Grant added six points for the Lakers off the bench, also going 3-3 from the field in just five minutes. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will return home to take on the Plattsburgh Cardinals for their annual Coaches vs. Cancer weekend on Friday, January 27th. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
