Men's Ice Hockey Defeated By Cortland In OT

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Hockey team returned home to the Deb to take on the Cortland Red Dragons this evening on their Power Play Youth Hockey Night. The Lakers would fall short, surrendering the game-winning goal just a minute into overtime. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 3 (12-7-1, 8-3 SUNYAC), Cortland 4 (12-7-1, 7-4 SUNYAC) 

Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Dragons were able to get on the board first with a power play goal scored less than two minutes into the contest. 

  • Connor Gatto would get the Lakers on the board first, with an assist by Shane Bull and Ryan Dickinson with just under three minutes remaining in the first period.

  • Less than a minute later, Tommy Cahill would give the Lakers the 2-1 lead receiving an assist from Troy Robillard.

  • Cortland would quickly respond with another goal of their own with just under a minute remaining in the period.

  • Going into the second period, Cal Schell would record ten saves, and the score would be tied at two.

  • Just over halfway through the second period of play, the Red Dragons would take a 3-2 lead with another power play goal.

  • The Laker would trail by one heading into the final period of play. Cal Schell would record seven more saves in the second period, bringing his total to 15. 

  • Shortly into the third period, Alex DiCarlo was able to tie the game at three with a fast break goal assisted by Shane Bull. 

  • The match would go into overtime with the score being tied at three. Schell recorded eight more saves in the third period, bringing his total to 23 through three periods. 

  • Just over a minute into overtime, the Red Dragons were able to net the game-winning goal. The Lakers would be defeated by a score of 4-3. Schell would finish with 25 saves on the night.

Oswego will stay on the lake for a faceoff against the Geneseo Knights on Friday, February 3rd. Join the Lakers as they host their "Into the Knight" game, with the puck drop scheduled for 7pm.
