Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lakers Take Down Bengals In Dominant Fashion

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team defeated the Buffalo State Bengals to complete the Friday sweep of the SUNYAC rival.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 112 (11-2, SUNYAC 5-1), Buffalo State 54 (1-11, SUNYAC 0-6)

Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The only time Buffalo State led was when they took a 4-3 lead early in the first half. From that point on, Oswego was utterly dominant in nearly every facet of the game.

  • Kaleb Cook had a big first half, scoring 15 points in the first 20 minutes.

  • Jeremiah Sparks had 11 points in the first half.

  • Entering the second half, Oswego led 49-29.

  • While the game was already out of hand, Oswego continued to keep up the intensity and shot the ball at a dominant 51.1% from the field, and over 40% from three point range.

  • Oswego had more offensive rebounds and total rebounds than the Bengals by a wide margin.

  • While the turnover margin was closer than the score would indicate (17 Buffalo State, 8 Oswego), the points off of the turnovers represented a part of the Lakers game that was truly dominant. The Bengals could only score four points off of Oswego's turnovers, while the Lakers made most of Buffalo State's turnovers count, scoring 27 points off of them.

  • The 63-25 half was one of the finest the Lakers had played all season, rivaling their previous matchup against the Bengals.

  • By the end of the game, the score was 112-54, a 58-point victory.

  • Kaleb Cook's impressive first half led him to lead the Lakers in scoring with 23. Sparks also had 22 points.

  • All told, five Lakers reached double figures: Cook and Sparks, Cam Chance with 16, Devin Green with 14, and Joey Rowback with 13.

WHAT'S NEXT

The men will play host to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday January 7, and look to repeat their dominant SUNYAC performance.
