Rowback Ties Single Game Three Points Record In Win

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team defeated the Geneseo Knights to bring their overall record to 12-2. Joey Rowback led the Lakers in scoring after an incredible display of three-point shooting, tying the all time Lakers single game three-points record with eight this evening.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 86 (12-2, SUNYAC 6-1), Geneseo 63 (5-7, SUNYAC 1-3)

Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego quickly established a double-digit lead in the first half on the back of Ahkee Anderson, who scored 15 of the Lakers' first 24 points.

  • With 11:26 left in the first half, Joey Rowback hit his first three pointer of the game, foreshadowing what would become an 8 three-pointer performance from the Sophomore.

  • By the end of the first half, Anderson had 20 points, including a three-pointer late that capped off his dominant half.

  • Rowback had four three-pointers, giving him 12 points in the first half.

  • The Lakers entered the break with a 17-point lead.

  • Rowback again hit his first three of the second half with around twelve minutes left in the game.

  • Rowback was also fouled on a three-point attempt, and knocked down all three free throws before hitting another three on the next possession, extending the Laker lead to 22.

  • Devin Green added in a few threes midway through the second half.

  • Jeremiah Sparks hit a jumper with 7:05 left to grow the lead to 25.

  • Geneseo attempted to go on a run to close the deficit, but another three from Rowback and a few free throws kept the Knights at bay and secured the 23-point victory for Oswego.

  • Rowbacks three-point accuracy and free throw shooting gave him 29 for the game.

  • Anderson had a quiet second half, but his big first half gave him the majority of his 23 points.

  • While Sparks had 12 points and Green had 10, low scoring games by their standards, they were important parts of running the offense, dishing the ball to their teammates and making plays the whole night. They each had seven assists for the game.

WHAT'S NEXT

The men will travel to Cortland to face the Red Dragons on Friday, January 13 in what promises to be a fascinating matchup. The Red Dragons are currently the #1 seed in the SUNYAC conference, and the Lakers sit at #2. Both teams have the same overall records, but Cortland is undefeated in conference play. The Lakers will look to seize the top spot in the conference, and hand the Red Dragons their first SUNYAC loss of the year, while extending their 8-game win streak.
