Lakers Drop First Game of Thanksgiving Showcase to Soaring Eagles

UTICA, N.Y. – The 8th nationally ranked Oswego Men's Hockey team made their way to Utica N.Y for the Utica University Thanksgiving Showcase. The Lakers opened showcase play against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles. Oswego fell 7-1 to the Soaring Eagles and will await the result of the St. John's (Minn.) and #3 Utica University game to determine who they will take on tomorrow at 4PM.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 1 (5-3-0, 4-1-0 SUNYAC), Elmira 7 (7-2-0, 2-2-0 NEHC)
Location: Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium | Utica, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first six minutes of the contest would go quietly on the offensive production side for both teams before the Soaring Eagles turned the Lakers over and transitioned quickly, scoring the first of their fleet of goals 6:12 into the first period.

  • At the 13:55 mark in the first, Elmira would extend its lead as the puck was once again turned over and found the stick of Elmira's Kerfalla Toure who scored to the left side of the net, putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.

  • Just 14 seconds into the second period, Freshman forward Brock Krulicki, assisted by Nolan Barrett and Thomas Rocco, netted one to put the Lakers on the board.

  • After nearly ten minutes of no scoring, the Soaring Eagles worked the puck down the left side of the Laker defensive zone, around an Oswego defender and eventually between the legs of Laker netminder Brandon Millburg.

  • That would unfortunately be the end of the day for Milberg, who finished with 10 saves in 29:20 minutes of ice time.

  • With Sophomore Cal Schell now in net for Oswego, it would take less than 1:30 for Elmira to score again, putting the Eagles ahead 4-1. And with just five minutes remaining in the 2nd period, Elmira would score their second consecutive power play goal, increasing their lead to 5-1.

  • Just 1:16 into third period play, Elmira's Chance Gorman would score his third of the game, and with just over six minutes remaining in regulation, the Soaring Eagles would score their 7th and final goal of the contest.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will await the winner of the St. John's (Minn.) and #3 Utica University game to determine who they will take on tomorrow, November 25th at 4PM.
