Men's Hockey Loses Non-Conference Matchup with Saint John's University

UTICA, N.Y. – Oswego Men's Hockey returned to the Utica Memorial Auditorium to face off against the Johnnies of Saint John's University. Despite a dominant start in the first and second periods, the Lakers fell 4-2 after letting up 4 unanswered SJU goals. Oswego closed out their Utica University Thanksgiving Showcase weekend two losses.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  

  • Senior forward Tyler Flack gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead over the Johnnies with a deep slap shot 8:22 into the first period of the game.  

  • The Lakers continued to control play, by winning 17/19 faceoffs in the first period and generating multiple quality scoring chances.  

  • Connor Sleeth made it a two-goal game with a power play tally 6:37 into the second period, extending the Lakers lead to 2-0.  

  • Shortly after Sleeth netted the Lakers' second goal, Saint John's opened their scoring streak when Freshman Jackson Bisson stole the puck from a Laker defenseman at Oswego's offensive blueline and scored a breakaway goal at the 15:07 mark of the 2nd period.  

  • Just 1:08 later, the Johnnies would tie the game at 2-2.  

  • The first two frames of play came to a close with the score standing at 2-2.  

  • With 11:16 left in regulation, SJU would score what proved to be the game-winning goal.  

  • The Lakers fought hard to regain a draw, but the Johnnies would seal their 4-2 victory with an empty-netter with just 43 seconds to play.  

WHAT'S NEXT 
 
The Lakers will make their way to Potsdam, N.Y. to face off against the Potsdam Bears on Friday, December 1st at 7PM. The Lakers are looking to continue their successful SUNYAC campaign with a conference win on the road.
