Lakers Drop Opening Game of Hockey Classic

OSWEGO, NY – Men's Hockey hosted Concordia University (Wisconsin) in their opening matchup of the Oswego State Hockey Classic presented by Best Western and Clarion. In a high scoring affair, the Lakers would fall short dropping the contest by a score of 8-5.  

 
THE BASICS 
 
Final Score: Oswego 5 (8-6-0, 6-2-0 SUNYAC), Concordia 8 (4-8-0, 2-4-0 NCHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED 

-          The Lakers opened up the scoring just two and a half minutes into the first period with a goal by Matt McQuade.

-          Concordia bounced back quickly netting a shorthanded goal 22 seconds later to tie the game.

-          The Falcons would add one more later in the opening frame to finish the first period with a 2-1 lead over the Lakers.

-          The flood gates would open for both teams in the middle period as each team scored 3 goals.

-          Oswego would score the first trio of goals as Shane Bull, Trent Grimshaw, and AJ Ryan would all find the back of the net.

-          Concordia would counter with a trio of goals of their own, all scored in a 3:18 span to finish the 2nd period with a 5-4 lead.

-          Ahkee Anderson had 15 points and 7 rebounds while Jamal Achille scored 9 points and recorded 11 rebounds.

-          Concordia would net another 3 goals in the third period and the Lakers would fall by a score of 8-5, despite outshooting the visitors 54-23.

-          Special teams would prove to be a big factor for both teams as the Lakers went 1/11 on the powerplay while the Falcons went 2/3 on the powerplay and managed to score three shorthanded goals in addition.

WHAT'S NEXT 
 
The Lakers will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 4pm when they take on SUNYAC foe, Cortland State, who dropped their opening game vs. Stevenson earlier in the day.
