Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Fall 2-1 to #3 Amherst

AMHERST, MA – Oswego Women's hockey headed to Amherst for a New Years Eve non-conference matchup against the #3 ranked Amherst Mammoths. The Lakers came out strong, scoring the first of the contest but would ultimately fall 2-1 to the hosts.

Final Score: Oswego 1 (5-5-1, 3-2-1 SUNYAC), Amherst 2 (7-0-1, 3-0-1 NESCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED  
  

  • From the opening faceoff the Lakers came out ready to compete. Despite their enthusiasm, Amherst would be the first to gain offensive momentum.  

  • For the majority of the first period, the Lakers would find themselves in their defensive zone as Amherst controlled the play.  

  • Oswego was able to hold off the Mammoths, ending the period with the scoreboard tied 0-0. 

  • The Lakers started the second period hot, gaining entry on offense early. Senior Captain Simone Bednarik notched the first goal of the contest, assisted by Mack Hull, just 1:07 into the period. 

  • Amherst quickly responded with a goal by Anna Baxter at the 12:08 mark of the period.  

  • The back-and-forth nature of the 2nd period would persist until the buzzer, and the scoreline would once again remain tied, but now 1-1.  

  • Early in the third period, the Lakers struggled to break it out of their zone, resulting in a Mammoth goal just 3:10 into the period. 

  • Despite a relentless effort, Oswego unfortunately could not mount a comeback, closing out the game with a 2-1 loss.

Oswego Women's Hockey will have a few days to recoup before resuming their SUNYAC campaign when they face off against Plattsburgh at home on Friday, January 5th at 7:00 PM.
