OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Women's Hockey hosted the No. 4 Plattsburgh Cardinals in their first conference matchup of 2024. The Lakers came out swinging, dominating both ends of the ice and controlling play throughout all three periods. With a final score of 3-2, Oswego not only handed Plattsburgh their second loss of the season but also recorded the second time in 49 meetings that the Lakers have defeated the Cardinals in the program's history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Lakers came out firing on all cylinders, winning the opening faceoff and gaining offensive momentum early.
· New addition to the Oswego offense, freshman transfer Sarah Muller, made an impact by notching her first career goal and the 1st of the night for the Lakers just 1:52 into the game.
· Oswego continued to control the pace on both ends of the ice, earning consecutive powerplays and several scoring opportunities.
· Following the Lakers' second powerplay of the first period, junior forward, Ashlyn McGrath netted the 2nd goal of the game at the 12:09 mark.
· Just a few minutes later, Junior Mack Hull would add a tally of her own to the scoreboard, with just less than two minutes remaining in the period. Extending the Lakers lead to 3-0.
· The second period would start similarly to the first, but the Lakers soon found themselves stuck in their defensive zone.
· Plattsburgh forward Julia Massotta was able to put one past junior goaltender Lexi Levy 9:38 into the second period. Advancing the score to 3-1.
· Oswego held off the Cardinals for the remainder of the second period and the scoreline would remain for most of the 3rd period.
· With just 25 seconds remaining in the third period Plattsburgh found a way to breakthrough once more, closing out the game with a final score of 3-2 in the Lakers' favor.

The Lakers will return to action tomorrow, January 6th at 3PM, for the second leg of this weekend's series against the Plattsburgh Cardinals.
