Men's Basketball Blows Out Red Dragons On Senior Day

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team defeated the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Saturday, getting back to their dominant scoring ways. Five Laker players scored over ten points. Oswego State Athletics wishes Devin Green, our only 2023 senior the best of luck in his future endeavors.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 102 (21-2, SUNYAC 15-1), Cortland 62 (16-7, SUNYAC 11-5)

Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half was one-sided in the Lakers' favor, but not at first. After the first ten minutes the score was 13-10 Lakers. Jamal Achille started the Laker run with six points over the next few Laker possessions. Devin Green added four points over that same stretch.

  • The Lakers put on a good display of sharing the rock, with no single player doing the majority of the scoring.

  • Over the final ten minutes of the first half, the Lakers went on a 41-18 run, shooting similarly from the field and from three-point range (58.06% FG%, 58.33% 3PT%).

  • Oswego took advantage of Cortland turnovers, scoring 15 points off of them. The score was 54-28 at the half.

  • Kaleb Cook took over during a four-minute stretch during the second half, scoring ten points, while Cortland could only muster four.

  • Jeremiah Sparks and Devin Green both had 14 points for the game off some accurate shooting, but the game was led on Oswego's side by Kaleb Cook, whose ten point outburst in the second half helped him score 16 for the game. Cortland's Austin Grunder led all scorers with 24.

  • Ahkee Anderson (12) and Sean Edwards (10) also scored in double figures for the Lakers.

  • Oswego's bench outscored the Red Dragons 47-18. The Lakers also dominated in the paint, outsourcing Cortland 48-10.
  • The Lakers have now scored 100 points in seven games this season and 90+ in nine games.

WHAT'S NEXT

The men will face the Golden Eagles in Brockport on Friday, February 17 and will look to take down the one conference foe that has gotten the best of them this season.
