Women's Ice Hockey Gets Back On Track With 5-0 Win Over Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Hockey team traveled to Potsdam this afternoon to take on the Bears for a conference matchup. The Lakers were able to get up early in the match and they would control the lead through the final period of play. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 0 (13-9-1, 7-4-1 NEWHL), Potsdam  (10-11-0, 5-9-0 NEWHL)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Simone Bednarik scored the first goal of the afternoon for the Lakers, giving her six on the season for Oswego. Bednarik scored just over seven minutes into the match, receiving the assist from Kensie Malone and Rylee Preston

  • Just five minutes later, Ariella Haas gave the Lakers a two puck lead over the Bears. Haas was assisted by Lizzie Burke and Simone Bednarik

  • Oswego would take a 2-0 lead going into the second period. Lexi Levy recorded four saves in the first period. 

  • Shortly into the second period, Potsdam was assessed a major penalty, which the Lakers were able to capitalize on. Just 20 seconds later, Ariella Haas scored her second goal of the afternoon. Haas was assisted by Simone Bednarik and Amanda Zenstein

  • About a minute later, Amanda Zenstein gave the Lakers a 4-0 lead over the Bears. Zenstein was assisted by Ariella Haas and Mack Hull

  • Going into the final period, Oswego led the Bears by four. Levy recorded 11 saves in the second period, bringing her total to 15 through two. 

  • Just over 14 minutes into the final period, Rachel Corbett scored the final goal for the Lakers, which gave them a 5-0 lead over the Bears. Corbett was assisted by Kyleigh Grugin and Amanda Zenstein

  • Lexi Levy pitched a shutout in the net, racking up eight more saves in the third, giving her 23 on the afternoon.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will return to the Deb on Friday, February 10th for their annual Pride Night game. Come show support for the Lakers as they take on SUNY Cortland, the puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
