OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Charlie Grygas has had an amazing season to date, including his first day of the NCAA Division III Championship today. Grygas earned two victories by decision today to earn his second All-American honor of his career.
Period 1 Round 1
- Charlie earned a quick 4-0 lead with two takedowns in the first period.
- Turley also earned two escapes to Grygas' two takedowns, bringing the score to 4-2 going into the second period.
Period 2
- Charlie continued the trend with two more takedowns in the second period to bring a six point gap in the second period (8-2).
- Turley escaped the second Grygas takedown bringing the score to 8-3 going into the final period of the match.
- End of second period score 8-3
Period 3
- Turley, choosing bottom in the third period, earned an escape to cut the Grygas lead to 8-4.
- Oswego State's Charlie Grygas continued to dominate on the offensive, earning another takedown to bring the lead back to six (10-4).
- With one more escape for Turley, the final match score resulted in an 11-5 victory for Grygas with the riding time point.
Charlie Second Round vs. #3 Seth Brossard
Period 1 Round 2
- With 1:46 remaining in the first period there was quite a delay as they cleaned up some blood on the mat just after Charlie looked to have a take down in hand.
- Charlie nearly earned another takedown with 1:27 remaining, but was forced out of bounds
- With 1:00 remaining, Charlie earned a leg sweeping takedown. With 28 seconds remaining Brossard earned the escape. In the final seconds of the first period, Charlie's defense showed through, not allowing a takedown with seconds remaining.
Period 2
- Charlie chose bottom in the second frame, earning the escape just 13 seconds into the second period.
- With 15 seconds remaining Charlie earned another takedown
Period 3
- Brossard chose bottom in the final period, 8 seconds in, Charlie threw Brossard to the ground and with 1:39 remaining, not allowing the escape.
- Eight seconds later, Brossard earned the escape making the score 5-2
- Charlie took the 5-3 decision in the Friday night session, earning himself his second All-American honor!!
