Women's Lacrosse Handily Takes Down Golden Flyers

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Nazareth Golden Flyers this evening at Laker Turf Stadium. Sela Wiley continued her dominant offensive streak for the Lakers, scoring four goals this afternoon in the Lakers win. Isabella Lembo also saw her success on offense continue, adding another four goals herself. The Lakers caged the Flyers this evening, and have won five of their last six games. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 14 (5-2), Nazareth 7 (2-5) 

Location: Laker Turf Stadium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Less than two minutes into play, Sela WIley opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead with 13:21 left in the first. 

  • The Golden Flyers tied the match at one with 8:26 remaining in the first. 

  • In the final five minutes of the first, the Lakers added two more goals, giving them a 3-1 lead going in the second quarter. Kate McNally scored the second goal with 4:26 remaining, with an assist from Madison Davis; Shae McConnell scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:55 remaining, receiving the assist from Isabella Lembo

  • McConnell continued to find the back of the net, recording her second goal of the evening just over a minute into the quarter. 

  • The Flyers would score their second goal of the contest with 11:08 remaining in the second, and would trail the Lakers by a score of 4-2. 

  • McConnell recorded her hat trick with 9:31 left in the second quarter, extending the Lakers lead to three. 

  • In the final seven minutes of the quarter, the Lakers would add two more goals, with Nazareth adding one more goal. Oswego took a four point lead into halftime, leading seven to three. 

  • The Lakers continued to score at the start of a new quarter, with Sela Wiley scoring a minute and nine seconds into the third. 

  • Seven minutes later, the Flyers scored back-to-back goals and cut the Lakers lead to three with 8:33 remaining in the third. 

  • In those final eight minutes, the Lakers added three unanswered goals to extend their lead to six. Julia Quirk recorded two goals, and Isabella Lembo recorded the other goal for the Lakers. 

  • Nazareth scored their sixth goal a minute and six seconds into the final quarter, cutting their deficit to five. 

  • With 12 minutes remaining, Isabella Lembo scored her third goal, giving her a hat trick on the afternoon. The Lakers led by six, with a score of 12-6. 

  • The Flyers scored their final goal of the contest with 11:25 remaining in the fourth. The Lakers then added two more goals before the end of regulation, giving them a 14-7 win over the Flyers. The two goals came from Sela Wiley and Isabella Lembo, who each recorded their fourth goal of the contest. 

  • Sarah Kamide recorded ten saves in goals, helping the Lakers get the win this afternoon. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The women will host New Paltz this weekend for their next matchup. The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 25th and is set to begin at 1pm.
