OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 6 Oswego State Men's Basketball team will be back on the court after impressive victories in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 over Marymount (VA) and #10 John Carroll University. The #6 Ranked Lakers will be taking on the #1 Ranked Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon. The game is scheduled for 7:00PM on Friday, March 10th in Ashland Virginia, home of the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon comes into the contest with a 29-1 overall record and 16-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets have not lost at home since East Mennonite on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in overtime. This puts Randolph-Macon on a 64 game winning streak at home since that day.
The Yellow Jackets average 72.3 points per contest on 46.7% shooting. Nationally, they rank 8th in the country in assist to turnover ratio with 1.45, fourth in the country in defensive field goal percentage, first in scoring defense (18.0), 18th in turnover margin, 22nd in turnovers per game and first in winning percentage.
Leading the Yellow Jackets in offense is Josh Talbert with 16.3 points per game. Miles Mallory is averaging 15.2 points per game and Keishawn Pulley Jr. is averaging 9.9 points per game. Mallory also leads the team in minutes played (31.0) and three point percentage (44.4%). Keishawn Pulley Jr. averages 20.8, has a field goal percentage of 46.8, a three point percentage of 42.3 and a free throw percentage of 75.0.
Oswego comes into the contest with the same 27-2 overall record and 19-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as they came into the 2021-22 tournament with. The Lakers last loss came to their SUNYAC rival Brockport.The Lakers' only two losses came on November 22nd to Nazareth in a three point loss and an 11-point loss to Brockport on December 2nd.
The Lakers have continued their offensive threat where they left off last year, Oswego is averaging 3.5 more points per game than they did through the round of 32 last year and is averaging a 2.1% higher field goal percentage at 46.9%. Oswego has held their opponents to 62.9 points per game and a field goal percentage of 39.7%. Oswego's defense is one of the best in the nation, ranking 11th in assist to turnover ratio, 24th in defensive rebounds per game, 21st in total rebounds per game, 21st in scoring defense, 2nd in scoring defense, 2nd in scoring margin, 19th in scoring offense, 10th three-point percentage, 11th in opposing three-point percentage and 4th in winning percentage. Four Lakers average double figures on the season just as they did last year. Jeremiah Sparks leads the Lakers in points per game with 16.5, followed by Devin Green (13.6), Ahkee Anderson (12.1), and Cartier Bowman (10.7).
