Wiley Scores 100th Goal En Route To Victory Over Brockport

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team returned home this afternoon, hosting the Brockport Golden Eagles. Oswego was able to win with an explosive first half offensive performance. Sela Wiley continued to shine for the Lakers, netting four goals in the contest. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 9 (9-3, 4-1 SUNYAC), Brockport 7 (4-6, 3-2 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shae McConnell put the Lakers up early with a goal less than two minutes into play, receiving an assist from Katie Fierro.

  • Fierro continued to find the open player, finding Sela Wiley four minutes later, giving the Lakers a two goal lead with nine minutes left in the first. 

  • Wiley would score again, this time unassisted with 6:20 remaining in the quarter. 

  • Kate McNally scored the final goal of the quarter for Oswego, giving them a four goal lead with three minutes remaining. 

  • Brockport did not back down, cutting the Oswego lead to two in the final minute of play. 

  • In quarter two, the Golden Eagles were still in rhythm, scoring the first two goals of the quarter to tie the game at four. 

  • Oswego then added four goals in the final six minutes of the half, to give the Lakers a four point lead again. 

  • Scoring for the Lakers was Isabella Lembo, Wiley, and Julia Quirk. Lembo scored twice in quarter two. 

  • With 18 seconds left in the half, Brockport scored a goal while up a player and made the score 8-5 going into halftime. Wiley had a hat trick heading into the second half. 

  • The Golden Eagles got the best of the Lakers in the second half, but were still unable to climb back from the four goal deficit they faced. 

  • Brockport scored a goal less than three minutes into the second half, cutting the Laker lead to two.

  • Shortly after, Wiley recorded her fourth goal of the match, which would end up being the Lakers final goal of the afternoon. Oswego led 9-6 with 10:51 remaining in the third quarter.

  • Oswego only allowed one more goal by Brockport, coming in the fourth quarter. The Lakers took a 9-7 victory over the Golden Eagles. 

  • Sela Wiley had four goals on the day, and a total of six points. Sarah Kamide recorded eight saves in goal during the win.

  • The Laker defense forced 18 turnovers throughout the match, which helped Oswego hold off any second half comeback by Brockport. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will be home against Plattsburgh this weekend for their senior game, scheduled for Saturday, April 15th at 1pm.
