Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Hawks Moving to 6-2

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team traveled to New Paltz to take on the Hawks this afternoon. The Lakers were able to extend their win streak to five, behind an impressive five goal performance from Corey O'Connor

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 10 (7-2, 4-0 SUNYAC), New Paltz 6 (5-7, 1-4 SUNYAC)

Location: South Turf Field, New Paltz, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The match was scoreless for the first five minutes of play, until Jack Delany found Liam Sexton to put the Lakers on the board first. 

  • Just a few moments later, Corey O'Connor extended the Lakers lead to two. 

  • The Hawks would bounce back and tie the match at two with 4:16 remaining, with two goals coming in just ten seconds apart. 

  • New Paltz took the lead with 2:48 remaining in the first. 

  • Oswego's Jason Dongelwic would tie the match at three with a goal being scored in the final seconds of the quarter. 

  • Max Brodman gave Oswego the lead again in the second quarter, scoring with 11:23 left in the half. 

  • Nearly seven minutes went by until O'Connor scored back-to-back goals just four seconds apart to give Oswego a three point lead, leading 6-3.

  • Oswego held onto their lead until halftime, holding the Hawks scoreless in the second to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. 

  • The Hawks cut the lead to two almost five minutes into quarter three. 

  • Oswego responded with two more goals before the end of the quarter. Scoring for the Lakers was O'Connor and Gavin Elston

  • Dongelewic extended the lead to five 30 seconds into the final quarter of play. 

  • The Hawks would not go down without a fight, scoring two more goals in the fourth. O'Connor scored the final goal for the Lakers in between the goals by the Hawks. 

  • Oswego went on to win 10-6, winning their fifth game in a row. 

  • O'Connor led the team with five goals this afternoon, Elston was behind him with three goals of his own. 

  • Aiden Kenyon had a day in net, recording 15 saves this afternoon. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The men will travel to Alfred University on Wednesday, April 19th, to take on the Saxons.
