Quirk Scores Six To Extend Win Streak To Four!

BUFFALO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo State Bengals this afternoon. The Lakers extended their win streak to four, with the help from Julia Quirk's offensive performance on the day. Quirk scored six goals on the day, missing on just three shot attempts. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 16 (12-3, 7-1 SUNYAC), Buffalo State 10 (5-9, 1-7 SUNYAC) 

Location: Coyer Field, Buffalo NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego jumped out to an early lead, netting four goals in the first five minutes of play. 

  • Shae McConnell netted the first goal just 24 seconds into the match. 

  • Julia Quirk extended the lead to two with 12:37 remaining in the quarter. 

  • Shortly after, Sela Wiley made it a three goal lead, netting a 40 foot goal. 

  • A minute later, Madison Davis netted the 19 footer, making it a four goal lead. 

  • With 8:19 remaining, Buffalo netted their first goal of the game. The Bengals added a second goal just a minute later making it 4-2. 

  • Nearly four minutes passed before Quirk netted her second goal, making it a four goal game. 

  • The final goal of the quarter would be by McConnell, while up a player, and the Lakers would take a 6-2 lead into the second quarter. 

  • Buffalo State started off the second with two goals of their own, making it a 6-4 game. 

  • Isabella Lembo scored her first goal of the game with 6:33 remaining in the half, making it a three score game again. 

  • Buffalo wouldn't back down from Oswego though, netting another goal less than a minute later. 

  • Oswego added two more goals in the final 40 seconds to make it a four goal lead at the half. Scoring for the Lakers was Lembo and McConnell, making the score 9-5. 

  • Buffalo came out swinging to start the second half, scoring three straight goals to make it a one goal game. 

  • However, the Lakers bounced back strong, netting five goals in the final eight minutes of the third. Quirk added two goals less than a minute apart from each other. Wiley and Davis netted their second and final goals of the game, and Lexi Levy recorded her lone goal of the game. 

  • The Lakers and Bengals went back and forth in the final quarter of play, with both teams netting two goals and the Lakers walked away with a six goal victory over Buffalo State.

  • Scoring in the fourth for Oswego was Quirk, who netted the final goals for Oswego, making it a 16-10 victory. Quirk finished with six goals on the day. 

  • Goalkeeper Sarah Kamide recorded five saves this afternoon during the win. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will travel to Oneonta on Saturday, April 22nd, for a matchup against the Red Dragons. The match is set to begin at 3pm.
