Lakers Fall To Cortland, Take on Oneonta In First round of SUNYAC's

CORTLAND, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse traveled to Cortland for a matchup against the Red Dragons. The Lakers were outmatched this afternoon, dropping their regular season closer by eight goals, despite Sela Wiley's hat trick during the match. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 7 (12-4, 7-2 SUNYAC), Cortland 15 (13-3, 9-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego gave up the first goal a minute and a half into the first quarter.

  • Sela Wiley recorded the game tying goal just a minute later, which was Wiley's 45th goal of the season. 

  • The Red Dragons scored six more goals in the first, and had a 7-1 lead going into quarter two. 

  • Oswego rebounded well in the second quarter, giving up just three goals and scoring two of their own. Kate McNally and Isabella Lembo scored for the Lakers in the second. Lembo's goal was her 46th goal of the season. 

  • The Lakers trailed 10-3 at the half. 

  • Cortland got the better of Oswego in the third, netting four more goals, with Oswego netting just one. Scoring for the Lakers was Wiley, netting her second goal of the game with a free position goal while up a player. 

  • The Lakers trailed 14-4 going into the final quarter. 

  • Oswego appeared to be in the midst of making a fourth quarter rally, with three straight goals being scored by Madison Davis, Wiley, and Julai Quirk, respectively. 

  • However, the Red Dragons would hold the Lakers scoreless in the final nine minutes, tacking on another goal for themselves and taking a 15-7 victory over Oswego. 

  • Wiley led the Lakers with three goals this afternoon, accounting for four total points. 

  • Sarah Kamide recorded 11 saves in net this afternoon, saving 42% of the shots she faced. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will begin their quest for the SUNYAC Championship with a first round matchup set for Saturday, April 29th at 5pm. The Lakers will be taking on the Oneonta Red Dragons right here at Laker Turf Stadium.
