Women's Lacrosse Achieves Highest Win Total in Program History With Win Over Oneonta In SUNYAC Quarterfinals

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Oneonta Red Dragons for a first round matchup in the SUNYAC playoffs. The Lakers controlled every facet of the game, handing the Red Dragons a 13 goal defeat in a statement first round victory. Leading the way for Oswego was none other than Sela Wiley and Isabella Lembo. Wiley led the team with ten points, while Lembo led the team in goals, erupting for nine goals in the game, this tied her for the Oswego State record in goals in a single game. Also with this win, the Women's Lacrosse program has earned their highest win total in program history! 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 22 (13-4, 8-2 SUNYAC), Oneonta 9 (5-11, 4-6 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego jumped out in front with a goal scored by Julia Quirk four minutes into the game. 

  • Just a minute later, Oneonta matched the Lakers with a goal of their own. 

  • Isabella Lembo scored her first of many goals this afternoon not even 45 seconds later, to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead with 9:13 remaining in the quarter. 

  • Oneonta responded with two goals of their own, taking a 3-2 lead. 

  • Lembo got her second goal of the game with 3:42 remaining in the quarter, tying the game at three. 

  • Oswego would hold a three goal lead going into the second quarter, with Shae McConnell scoring twice, and Lembo adding her third goal of the game. 

  • The Lakers erupted in the second quarter, scoring seven goals straight before the Red Dragons could find an answer. 

  • 13 seconds into the quarter, Lembo recorded her fourth goal of the game, assisted by Sela Wiley. The Lakers led 7-3 at this point. 

  • Less than two minutes into the game, McConnell scored her third goal of the game, extending their lead to five. 

  • Madison Davis pushed the lead to six, scoring with 12:46 remaining in the second quarter. 

  • Wiley then recorded back to back goals just a minute apart to push the lead to eight, making the score 11-3. 

  • Three minutes passed before Wiley would score yet again, giving the Lakers a nine point lead. Three Lakers had recorded a hat trick at this point, 

  • Lembo would score a free position goal just 30 seconds later, and the Lakers would have a double-digit lead over the Red Dragons. 

  • Oneonta cut the lead back to single digits with a score coming in with 37 seconds left in the half. Oswego held on and took a 13-4 lead into halftime. 

  • The third quarter was as even as it could get, with both teams adding four goals to their score. Each team went back and forth, going goal for goal in the third quarter. 

  • Oswego netted the first goal of the half, with Lembo recording another free position goal. 

  • The remainder of the goals scored in the third came from McConnell, Lembo, and Noelle Smith. The score would be 17-8 going into the final quarter. 

  • Quirk gave the Lakers a double-digit lead for the second time today, scoring on a free position shot just 34 seconds into the final quarter, and scoring again with 11:19 remaining. Oswego led by 11 at this point. 

  • There was no slowing down for the Lakers, as they tacked on another pair of goals, making the score 21-8. Both goals came from Lembo, who finished with nine goals on the day. 

  • Oneonta added their final goal with four minutes remaining in the game.

  • Sadie Zemanick put the finishing touches on the Red Dragons, scoring with just eight seconds left in the game. Oswego punched Oneonta's ticket home with a 22-9 win.

  • Lembo recorded nine goals on the day, Wiley had ten total points, and goalkeeper Sarah Kamide recorded four saves.

The Lakers advance to round two of the SUNYAC playoffs, with a matchup against the Geneseo Knights. The matchup is set for Wednesday, May 3rd at 7pm in Geneseo.
