Baseball Sweeps Blue Devils, Van Dreason Walks It Off

ROCHESTER, NY – The Oswego State Baseball team had a double header this afternoon against the Fredonia Blue Devils at Monroe Community College. Oswego State tallied 24 runs between the two games, sweeping the Blue Devils for the regular season. The Lakers have now won three in a row. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 12, Fredonia 1; Oswego 12, Fredonia 7

Location:  Monroe Community College Baseball Field, Rochester, NY

Records:  Oswego 8-11, 3-3 SUNYAC, Fredonia 4-11, 0-3 SUNYAC

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

  • The Lakers started off hot on the mound, getting three straight strikeouts to start off the ball game. 

  • The Blue Devils set the Lakers up to score, walking Brian Brezosky then hitting Jelani Hamer with a pitch. Tishawn Featherstone then grounded out to second base which allowed the Lakers runners to advance to second and third. 

  • Owen Parliment hit a double to left field, bringing in Hamer and Brezosky, giving the Lakers  a two point lead. 

  • Julian Drew singled to center field on the next at-bat, bringing in Parliment. The Lakers would lead by three going into the second inning. 

  • The Hawks scored their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. 

  • The Lakers added two more runs in the bottom of the second, extending their lead to four with a double by Hamer and a single by Featherstone. 

  • Oswego added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Drew reached home plate off a wild pitch by the Blue Devils. Colin Williams recorded a double, earning an RBI in the inning. Frank Levanti also earned an RBI off a single through the left side.

  • The Lakers didn't earn another run until the bottom of the sixth inning, which was off a single by Williams. Oswego led 9-1 at this point.

  • In the final inning of the game, Blake VanDreason went yard and brought in two additional runners, solidifying the Lakers 12-1 win over the Blue Devils in game one. 

  • Leading the Lakers on the mound was Anthony Van Fossen, who pitched four innings and earned six strikeouts. Colin Williams led the Lakers at the plate, going three for four with two RBIs and a score. 

 Game 2:

 
  • Oswego got off to an early lead again in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • With bases loaded, Owen Parliment recorded a sacrifice fly, bringing in the first runner of the inning. 

  • Jacob Levine then doubled out to right center field, bringing in two more runners. 

  • The Blue Devils added two runs in the top of the second inning, and would trail Oswego by a score of 3-2. 

  • Fredonia tied the Lakers at three with a run in the top of the third inning.

  • It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning when Oswego reclaimed their lead over Fredonia. 

  • Julian Drew hit a double to center field and brought in a runner, giving the Lakers a one point lead. 

  • Tishawn Featherstone added to their lead with a single out to right field, bringing in Drew. The next pitch by Fredonia was wild and allowed Jelani Hamer to score and give the Lakers a three point lead yet again. 

  • Fredonia refused to back down though, earning three runs in the next inning and tied the Lakers again, this time at six. 

  • Oswego would get their lead back though in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the help of Fredonia. With bases loaded, the Blue Devils walked Drew, and allowed Tim Schinto to score and give Oswego a one point lead.

  • The Lakers let it rip in the next inning, scoring four runs and giving them a five point lead. 

  • Featherstone and Parliment both reached home off an error by Fredonia's third basemen.

  • A few batters later, the Lakers found themselves with bases loaded with just one out. The Blue Devils walked Sam Allen and gave the Lakers a run. They then walked CJ McCarthy at the next at-bat, giving up another run. 

  • Oswego scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning, with a run earned by Emil Sander

  • Fredonia couldn't come back from the six point deficit in the final inning, only scoring one more run. 

  • Oswego defeated the Blue Devils in game two by a score of 12-7. 

  • Jake Danyluk and Devon Campbell led the Lakers with four strikeouts each on the mound. At the plate, Julian Drew led the way for Oswego, going two for four, earning two runs and recording an RBI. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego State will travel to New Paltz to take on the Hawks this Friday, April 7th. The first pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
