NEW PALTZ, NY – The Oswego State Baseball team traveled to New Paltz this afternoon to take on the Hawks. The Lakers were in full force, having 11 total hits with two home runs, coming back from an early two run deficit.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The beginning of the contest started off slow, with both teams unable to score a run in the first two innings.

Oswego was able to break the silence in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs. The inning started off with the Hawks walking Brian Brezosky.

Julian Drew then doubled to right field, bringing in Brezosky and giving Oswego the lead.

During the next at-bat, Jelani Hamer singled to left field, and brought Drew home, giving the Lakers a two-run lead.

With bases loaded, the Hawks walked Colin Williams and Tishawn Featherstone walked across the plate. The next at-bat, CJ McCarthy was hit by the pitch and Owen Parliment advanced home.

The Hawks matched the Lakers in the bottom of the third inning with four runs of their own.

Featherstone hit a homerun in the top of the fourth, bringing in two runs for the Lakers and giving them the lead again.

A single to left field by Blake VanDreason earned the Lakers a third run in the fourth inning, bringing in Parliment for his second score of the game.

New Paltz kept swinging with the Lakers, earning five runs in the bottom of the fourth and took a two point lead over the Lakers.

Both teams remained quiet in the next three innings, as neither team was able to reach home.

Oswego found life in the top of the eighth inning, scoring seven runs in the inning behind a home run by Hamer.

Drew got the Lakers started with a single to center field, bringing in Brezosky.

Hamer then hit a home run during the next at-bat, bringing in Drew. At this point, the Lakers and Hawks would be tied at ten.

Later in the inning, McCarthy hit a double to right field, bringing in two runners. Devon Campbell and VanDreason were brought in by McCarthy.

The last run of the game would come from a sacrifice fly by Drew, which brought in Anthony Barone, and gave the Lakers a 14-10 lead.

The Lakers held onto their lead for the final inning and a half, and the Lakers defeated the Hawks by a score of 14-10.

Hamer led the Lakers at the plate, going four for six at-bat, earning three RBIs, scoring two runs, and hitting one home run.

Jonah Shearer led on the mound with three strikeouts, Alek Conrad added two strikouts.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego State will stay at New Paltz for a double header tomorrow afternoon. Game one is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, April 8th, game two is set for 3pm.
