Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Bears 21-3

POTSDAM, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Potsdam this afternoon to take on the Bears. The Lakers could not be stopped as they went on to win in controlling fashion, handing the Bears a 18 goal defeat. There were nine different Lakers who were able to score a goal in their 21 point offensive performance, with Isabella Lembo leading the way with five. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 21 (8-3, 3-1 SUNYAC), Potsdam 3 (2-8, 0-5 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego held the Bears in check for the entire first half of play, not allowing a single goal to be made. 

  • On the other hand, the Lakers were finding success in what seemed to be every time the ball touched their stick. 

  • Less than two minutes into play, Sela Wiley picked up a ground ball and scored the first goal for Oswego. 

  • Isabella Lembo would score the second goal of the quarter just a few minutes late and the Lakers would take an early 2-0 lead. 

  • In the final six and a half minutes of the first, Oswego would add three more goals, taking a 5-0 lead into the second quarter. Scoring goals in the first was Julia Quirk, assisted by Wiley; Katie Fierro, assisted by Shae McConnell; and Lembo again, assisted by Wiley. 

  • It wasn't until the halfway point of the second quarter when Oswego scored their next goal. Quirk was able to score again while being down a girl, getting the assist from McConnell. 

  • Less than a minute later, Quirk recorded her hat trick off a free-position shot, giving Oswego a seven point lead. 

  • After getting two assists, McConnell chose to get in on the action, netting her own goal off a free-position shot with 5:45 remaining in the half. 

  • Lembo also completed her hat trick in the second quarter, getting an assist from Wiley with 4:41 remaining. 

  • With less than a minute and a half left in the quarter, the Lakers added two more goals to give them a commanding 11 point lead going into the half. Scoring the other two goals for Oswego was Lembo, and Sadie Zemanick

  • With goals by Noelle Smith, Quirk, McConnell, and Lembo, the Lakers jumped out to a 15 point lead in the third quarter. 

  • Potsdam finally got on the board with 3:42 remaining in the third quarter, trailing by 14. 

  • Oswego tallied two more goals in the final two minutes in the third, with goals coming from Lexi Levy and Smith. Oswego led 17-1 going into the final quarter of play. 

  • 45 seconds into the fourth, Wiley scored her second and final goal of the match, which the Bears responded with their second goal of the match just a minute later. 

  • The Lakers went on to add three more goals before the Bears scored their third and final goal. Scoring the final goals for the Lakers was Ava Tulimiero, Levy, and Zemanick. 

  • Oswego walked away with a dominant win over the Bears, defeating them by a score of 21-3. 

  • Sarah Kamide received the victory in goal, recording four saves. Alana Iacovissi and Nicole Aherne also saw some time in the net, with Ahene recording three saves. 

  • Wiley led the Lakers with ten total points, recording a whopping eight assists and two points. Wiley currently leads the SUNYAC with 26 assists, also leading with 56 points. 

  • Isabella Lembo led Oswego with five goals, adding one assist on the day. 

  • The Laker defense forced the Bears to commit 21 turnovers.

The Lakers will be returning home to take on Brockport on Wednesday, April 12th at 4pm.
