Lakers Win Puts Them Atop The SUNYAC!

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team stormed back in the fourth period to take down the Oneonta Red Dragons by a score of 11-8. Despite a slow start, the Lakers scored four unanswered in the final 15 minutes to take the win.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 11 (5-2, 3-0 SUNYAC), Oneonta 8 (6-3, 2-1 SUNYAC) 

Location: Laker Turf Stadium, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oneonta scored first, but the Lakers were able to answer off of two goals from Max Brodman and Trey Jones (off an assist from Liam Sexton) to take a 2-1 lead after the first period.

  • Oneonta scored twice at the beginning of the second period to take a 3-2 lead.

  • Liam Sexton took an assist from Jones to tie the game at three with 5:18 remaining in the second.

  • The Red Dragons scored shortly after to retake the lead, but with 3:37 remaining, Jason Dongelewic tied the game off an assist from Brodman.

  • The Red Dragons retook the lead before the end of the first half, and the game stood at 5-4.

  • The third quarter was back and forth. At one point, Oneonta had a three point lead when they scored two goals to begin the third period. However, the Lakers battled back, scoring twice. The first goal came from Brodman, and the second came from Corey O'Connor off an assist from Gavin Elston.

  • Oneonta scored again, but the Lakers answered back yet again with a goal from Sexton off an assist from Jack Delany.

  • Despite the closely played game, the Lakers trailed entering the fourth period.

  • Gavin Elston played a brilliant three minutes midway through the fourth quarter, scoring twice at the 8:16 and 7:19 mark to give the Lakers a 9-8 lead. He was assisted by Delany on his second goal.

  • Trey Jones extended the Laker lead with a goal at the 4:42 mark of the fourth period. Lastly, Dongelewic took an assist from Brodman to cap off an 11-8 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

The men will continue their SUNYAC schedule when they play against the Hawks in New Paltz on Saturday, April 15.
