THE BASICS

Final Score:  Oswego State 9 , Oneonta 6 (11 Inn.)

Location:  Cortland, NY

Records:  Oswego (20-20) 1-1 in tournament , Oneonta (25-15) 0-2 in tournament

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers took no time breaking the scoring open with a CJ McCarthy single through the right side, scoring Jacob Levine after he doubled for the Lakers..

  • Oneonta would then take the lead in the second inning with a homerun, this coming after a one, two, three inning for the Red Dragons in the top half of the inning.

  • Oswego broke through once again in the third inning.

  • The rally began with Tim Schinto singling and Hamer following suit. Tisahwn Featherstone then reached on an error by the pitcher, pulling his foot from the bag before securing the ball at first base. Oswego then put on a double steal, putting Hamer on third and Featherstone on second. McCarthy then grounded out to the second baseman, scoring Hamer to give them the 3-2 lead.

  • Owen Parliament then also singled scoring Featherstone. Oswego went into the bottom of the third inning with a 4-2 lead

  • Trey McGowan lead off the top of the fourth inning being hit by a pitch and then stole second base.

  • Hamer then scored McGowan on a double to left field (FORE).

  • The score remained 5-2 in the Lakers' favor until the top of the sixth inning where Featherstone lined out to left field with a rocket of a hit, tagging was McGowan from third base.

  • In the bottom of the sixth, Oneonta was looking to come back, walking and singling in the first two batters of the half inning. The Lakers earned an out on a fly out to left field giving them one out with putting runners first and second.

  • With a single through the right side for the Red Dragons, Featherstone showed off his arm, throwing out the runner from second base at home from deep right field. This was a huge point in the game not allowing the Red Dragons to score after the scare.

  • Oneonta broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning once again.

  • After a leadoff walk, Larry Citrola came in to pitch for Alek Conrad

  • The Lakers had a defensive miscue with no outs and runners on first and second, this allowed Oneonta to load the bases. After a ground out to the shortstop, Oneonta scored one run to cut the lead to 6-3.

  • Oneonta then scored their fourth run by a dropped fly ball by Oswego, scoring from third base.

  • Citrola got the Lakers out of the jam with a foul out and a strikeout to end the inning.

  • The eighth inning went scoreless for both teams as they were gearing up for what turned out to be a very entertaining ninth inning.

  • On four hits in the bottom of the ninth inning, Oneonta tied the score at six, forcing extra innings and nearly ending the game in nine innings.

  • With runners on first and second with two outs, Anthony Van Fossen came in to pitch in relief of Citrola, throwing one pitch and getting out of the jam and forcing extra innings with a fly out to right field.

  • In the top of the first extra inning Greg Carullo got things started with a one out walk McGowan then grounded into a double play ending the offensive hopes of Oswego in the 10th.

  • In the top of the 11th inning, Jelani Hamer homered to left center field giving the Lakers a two-run lead.

  • Parliament then continued the scoring with a single to left center field, scoring Levine.

  • Van Fossen finished the job for the Green and Gold gettin two outs in two pitches in the bottom of the 11th. In five pitches the Lakers kept their hopes alive, winning the contest 9-6 in 11 total innings.
