OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Volleyball team fell in five sets to the Pacers of Marywood this evening in their first contest of the Oswego State Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Marywood took no time adjusting to their game, going on an 8-1 run in the first set.

Oswego took advantage of the Pacers' offensive mistakes, earning three straight points on their opponents mishits.

After a kill from Olivia Bunn, the Lakers came alive, scoring seven of the next eight points to give them their first lead of the game at 13-12.

It was back and forth until the Lakers' captain Georgia Farry got a kill to ignite her team to a 6-0 run, putting them up 21-18.

The final set was again back and forth through the remainder, Marywood closed it out with three straight points to take it 26-24.

After exchanging points in the early stages of the second set, the Lakers took a 5-0 run to give them a 6-2 lead.

Scoring nine of the next 11 points, Oswego found themselves up 15-5.

Marywood did not give up as they snuck back in the set with small runs that led up to a 4-0 run to bring them within four points down the stretch (23-19).

Emily Zeisler took matters into her own hands and earned a kill to bring her team to set point.

Again the Lakers escaped by taking full advantage of the Pacers' miscues, winning the second set 25-19.

The (home) Green and Gold kept the momentum up, going on an early 8-3 run in the third set.

After giving up a kill to the Pacers, Oswego then scored five of the next six points, to lead 13-5.

Again after a Marywood point, Oswego scored four of the next five, going up big in the third set 17-7.

Marywood tried to pull on a couple of runs of their own, scoring the next four of five points, bringing the set to 18-11 in favor of the Lakers.

Oswego did not take light of this, scoring seven of the next nine points to close out the third set by a score of 25-13.

The fourth set was looking good for the Lakers, up 6-2 early.

Marywood came back to tie it at eight a side before going on a 8-1 run to go up 16-10.

Oswego would not lay down as they earned five points in a row to bring set four to 16-15 in favor of the Pacers.

Marywood then scored nine of the next 11 points to take the set 25-17, forcing a tie-breaking set.

Oswego didn't seem to recover from the set four run they faced, going down 12-2 in the final set.

Marywood got the game to match point and the Lakers had a little jump in their step. Bunn started the momentum with a great kill and Cara Simplicio continued it.

The Lakers got to six points before the Pacers earned their match-winning point off of a kill.

Oswego had three players with seven kills and three players with six kills. Attacking errors were detrimental to the Lakers success this evening, finishing the contest with 29 total attack errors to only 39 kills.

Farry and Grace Taylor led the Lakers with 11.0 points a piece, followed by Sydney Chiffriller with 10.5.

The Lakers will continue their Oswego State Invitational on Saturday, September 2nd at 11:00am against Wheaton (Mass.) right on the main court of Max Ziel Gymnasium.
