Mucha Scores Two Goals as Lakers Defeat Potsdam

OSWEGO, NY – The Women's Hockey Team hosted Potsdam on Friday evening looking to further secure their place in the top half of the SUNYAC standings. A strong first period would give the Lakers an early lead that they would not relinquish on their way to a 5-2 win over the Bears.
 
THE BASICS 
Final Score:  Oswego 5 (7-6-1, 5-3-1 SUNYAC), Potsdam 2 (6-7-0, 2-5-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Oswego would jump out of the gates quickly on Friday evening controlling possession and scoring opportunities throughout the first frame.
  • It would take ten minutes of pressure for the Lakers to finally breakthrough on the scoresheet when Leah Coley found the back of the net 10:47 into the period.
  • The Lakers would continue to attack the Potsdam net and would be rewarded for their efforts with another goal in the final minutes of the period by Mack Hull.
  • The first period would end with the Lakers winning 2-0 and outshooting the visitors 14-3.
  • The second period would see more back and forth action as both teams would get chances on net, but the Lakers would score first, 6:33 into the period on a shot by Tessa Mucha.
  • Five minutes later, Potsdam would get rewarded for their efforts only to have Megan Buxton score for the Lakers thirty seconds later to keep the Lakers lead at three goals.
  • The middle period would end with the Lakers leading 4-1.
  • Tessa Mucha scored her second tally of the game just 1:55 into the third period to extend the Lakers lead to a comfortable 5-1.
  • Potsdam's Megan Teachout would score her second goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the game to pull the score to 5-2 and the game would end with the same scoreline.
  • Tessa Mucha led the Lakers offense with 2 goals on the evening while Rheya Zemlak would set up her teammates throughout the game with a 3 assist effort.
WHAT'S NEXT 
The Lakers jump right back into action on Saturday afternoon with a rematch against the Bears at the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. Puck drop will be at 3pm.
