NEW PALTZ, NY - SUNY Oswego women's basketball (8-5) took on the SUNY New Paltz Hawks (10-3) in New Paltz, NY Tuesday evening. The Hawks won this SUNYAC contest, 58-50.
In a tightly contested first quarter, the Lakers shot 46% from the field compared to just 33% by the Hawks.
Zhane Holmes and
Chastin Giles did most of the scoring in the first for Oswego with a combined thirteen of the fifteen points scored. In the second, New Paltz extended a one-point lead from the first quarter to seven before the break. While the offense for the Lakers began to struggle, the turnovers started to pile up. The Lakers committed their highest turnover total of the season against the Hawks with thirty-one. After heading into the fourth quarter down eleven points, the Lakers cut the deficit to just four after a jumper by
Elaina Johnson. New Paltz was able to maintain that lead and sink a few jumpers and free throws down the stretch to hand Oswego their third conference loss of the season. Zhane Homes led the Lakers in scoring with eleven points.
