OSWEGO-NY – The SUNY Oswego men's hockey team hit the road Friday for another SUNYAC match-up, this time at SUNY Fredonia. The Lakers defeated the Blue Devils 5-0.
The Lakers struck first less than five minutes into the game when
Connor Sleeth scored on a pass from behind the goal from
Matt McQuade and
Quinn Warmuth. The Lakers would go on to take nineteen shots in the first period which is four more than their host, the Blue Devils, in the first period.
To open the second period, the Lakers brought the pressure peppering the Fredonia goalies with shot after shot. After a shot by
Quinn Warmuth was blocked,
Tristan Francis got the rebound and sent it home for the second goal of the night for SUNY Oswego. Soon after the goal, the Lakers found themselves on the wrong end of a five-on-three powerplay. The Blue Devils were shut out on the powerplay thanks to Cal Shell and the Laker defense. The Lakers built on their lead later on in the second thanks to a rebound goal from
Brock Krulicki assisted by
Daniel Colabufo and
Tristan Francis.
Shane Bull then added to the Laker lead with a breakaway goal of his own to make it 4-0 (assisted by
Tyler Flack) at the end of the third.
The Lakers started the third period on a powerplay but were not able to add to their lead. In the sixth minute of play, Conor Gatto found the top shelf burying the fifth goal of the game for SUNY Oswego assisted by
Drake Semrad. For the remainder of the third, each team would take their turn on a powerplay with neither team able to score off their opportunities. SUNY Oswego captured the road win, 5-0.
Up next, men's hockey will head to Buffalo State for another SUNYAC game tomorrow at 7:00 PM.
