OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Women's Hockey returned home this afternoon to host the second contest of their two-game series against the Cortland Red Dragons. Despite last night's unfortunate result, the Lakers came out refreshed and full of energy. Early scoring excitement granted Oswego the necessary momentum to outwork the Dragons at both ends of the ice throughout all three periods. The Lakers would redeem yesterday's squandered efforts with a dominant 3-1 win over Cortland. \
THE BASICS
Final Score: Oswego 3 (9-9-1, 7-4-1 SUNYAC), Cortland 1 (15-4-2, 10-3-1 SUNYAC)
Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena | Oswego, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Right from the jump the Lakers came out with energy, executing clean breakouts and passing plays in the first few minutes of play. A dynamic Oswego forecheck kept the Dragons in their defensive zone. Junior defenseman Rylee Preston opened scoring for the Lakers with a goal from the deep in the slot at 13:38. This early scoring excitement generated momentum for Oswego that would allow them to control play at both ends of the ice and close out the first period with a 1-0 lead over Cortland.
Oswego's forecheck awarded them a powerplay in the opening minute of second period play. The Lakers were unable to breakthrough with the 5-on-4 advantage, but Erika Parenti found a way to put one away a few minutes later at 12:25 in even-strength play, extending the Lakers lead to 2-0. Oswego continued to dominate, shutting down Cortland's skilled powerplay in the final minutes of play.
The Lakers opened the third period on the penalty kill but quickly found themselves on a powerplay of their own. In the following minutes, two Lakers were sent to the box, granting the Red Dragons a 5-on-3 advantage. This is when Cortland forward Kait Bourgeois found a way to put one behind Oswego netminder Lexi Levy at the 10:02 mark, improving the scoreline to 2-1. The Lakers responded quickly, winning the following faceoff and advancing it into the offensive zone. Senior Rachel Corbett wasted no time netting a third goal less than a minute later, securing the Lakers 3-1 win over the Red Dragons.

The Lakers will return to conference play next weekend when they face off against the Morrisville State Mustangs. The two-game series will commence on Friday, February 2nd at 7:00 PM at the SUNY Morrisville IcePlex.
