OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Men's Soccer team hosted the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday afternoon where they celebrated their seniors. The Cardinals are ahead of the Lakers in SUNYAC standings and the Lakers looked to make a statement at home on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Final Score:
Oswego 0 (7-3-3, 2-3-1 SUNYAC)
Plattsburgh 1 (9-2-3, 4-2-1 SUNYAC)
Location: Laker Turf Field, SUNY Oswego
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals pressured the Lakers right from the opening kick. Oswego was on the defensive for most of the first half. The pressure from Plattsburgh reached a peak when, in the 15th minute, the Lakers goalie received a yellow card in the box, leading to a penalty kick that the Cardinals buried for a 1-0 lead. For the rest of the half, the Lakers picked up the momentum and tested the visiting keeper before heading into halftime with a one-goal deficit.
In the second half, the physical play picked up from both teams which displayed itself in the form of 5 yellow cards assessed to the two teams combined. Oswego had a few goal-scoring opportunities from
Tajay Ellis on a breakaway and a dish from
Chris Smith to
Kieran Husselbeck that went just over the crossbar. With time winding down the Lakers tried to make one final push but the Cardinals kept them at bay and handed the Lakers a home conference loss, 1-0.
