Lakers fall to the Bengals in Buffalo, 5-3

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Men's Soccer team hit the road to take on the number two team in the conference, the Buffalo State Bengals on Wednesday night. After a lengthy lightning delay, the Bengals scored early and often for a 4-0 win over the Lakers.

THE BASICS

Final Score:
Oswego 3 (7-4-3, 2-4-1 SUNYAC)
Buffalo State 5 (14-1-1, 7-1 SUNYAC)

Location: Coyer Field, Buffalo State Campus

HOW IT HAPPENED

It took less than five minutes for the Bengals to grab a lead in this one. A cross from the corner into the front of the Laker net pushed a goal passed Oswego keeper Kyle Rose for a 1-0 lead. After a lightning delay that lasted most of an hour, Buffalo State came right back out and scored their second goal for a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of gameplay. In the 27th minute, the Bengal's continued to build on their lead on a goal scored up close to the net. The Lakers had two great chances from Tajay Ellis near the goal, but the Buffalo State goalie batted them away each time. Just before halftime, the Bengals added a fourth goal to make the lead 4-0 before the Lakers were awarded a penalty kick that Chris Smith buried for a 4-1 deficit at the half.

In the 37th minute of the second half, the Bengals scored their fifth goal of the game on a breakaway. The Lakers continued to try and get back into this game and scored once again at the 70th minute when Matthew Sturman scored his third goal of the season (Benjamin Brooks assists) to make the score 5-2. Then, with 11 minutes remaining, Sturman scored his second goal of the game with a header and an assist from Jason Wuytack. In the final two minutes, the Bengals were awarded a penalty kick that was turned away by Kyle Rose. Unfortunately, the Bengals lead would hold and the Lakers fell on the road, 5-3.
