HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers looked to build off a win the night before versus a tough Potsdam team. Today was also the Lakers Senior day. The team and fans got a chance to celebrate the seniors Cara Simplicio, Nyah Davis, Madison Gordon, and Emily Ziesler. All four seniors have brought so much to the volleyball program and the team. The community thank them for their contribution over the past four years and wish them all of the luck moving forward

The emotions and energy were high as the Lakers looked to use this to their advantage. The first set proved to be all Lakers as Senior Madison Gordon had three service aces they immediately jumped to a 7-0 lead to start the game and set. The Cardinals were able to answer back with a 4-0 run of their own 7-4 Lakers. Kills by Priscilla McReynolds and Aces by Kailey Vugteveen would extend the Lakers lead to 20-12. The Cardinal swould show some fight as they battled back to make the first set score more respectable, but the Lakers proved to be too much taking set one, 25-16.

The second set started off rocky for the Lakers as errors mounted for the Lakers and they went down 7-4 quickly. The Lakers did not have the answer as the lead ballooned even more off of plays by Plattsburghs Kayleigh Ganz to put the score at a demanding 13-5 Plattsburgh. A Laker timeout and ability was just what the Lakers needed as they responded in force going on a 11-1 run to retake the lead, 16-14 Lakers. Key plays down the stretch by McReynolds, Vugteveen, and Gordon allowed the Lakers to maintain and build on their lead as they responded every time Plattsburgh brought the score within 1. This would allow the Lakers to keep momentum and finish the second set on a 4-0 run to take the second set 25-20.

The third and final set of today's contest saw both teams go back and forth throughout the beginning as each team battled to take an advantage. Plattsburgh was able to edge the Lakers enough in the first part of the set to grab a 4 point lead 14-10 Plattsburgh. The Lakers were again able to go on a set changing run as they scored 7 straight behind the play of senior Emily Zeisler and Lillian Byrne. This would put the Lakers up 17-14 and they would never relent as they would go on to win the third set 25-20 off of two more consecutive service aces by Senior Madison Gordon.
