HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, the Lakers stayed with the Hawks for the first half of the set. The Hawks built a 16-10 lead that was ended by a kill from Kalley Vugteveen assisted by Mya Bush. The Lakers were able to close the gap to as little as 3 but the Hawks secured a first set win, 25-18.

To start the second set, it was all Lakers with a kill from Priscilla McReynolds and an ace from Mya Bush. The Laker lead was able to balloon as high as 19-12 before New Paltz went on a small run of their own that was stopped by a few errors from the Hawks. Serves from Gabriella Bishop and Emily Zeisler closed out the Hawks, 25-23.

The third set was hyper-competitive with both teams knotted at 20 points each. Mya Bush went back to serve and delivered an ace along with kills from Vugteveen and Zeisler to put the Hawks away by a similar score 25-23.

The New Paltz offense came to life in the third set delivering kill after kill to the Lakers helping them build a 15-10 lead. Priscilla McReynolds and Cara Simplicio battled back with a few kills assisted by Mya Bush but the Hawks were determined to force a 5th and final set on their home court.

In the 5th set, the two teams battled to a 5-5 tie. From there, New Paltz went on an eight-point run to put the Lakers two points away from defeat.  A late kill by Gabriella Bishop was not enough for Oswego and they fell on the road to the Hawks, 8-15 in the final set, (3-2).
