OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Lakers hosted the Blue Devils of SUNY Fredonia on Friday night for another home SUNYAC match-up. If the Lakers secured the win this evening, they earned themselves a spot in the SUNYAC Playoffs.
THE BASICS

Fredonia 0 (10-16, 3-5)
25-19, 25-18, 25-18
Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium, SUNY Oswego
HOW IT HAPPENED
From the first serve, you knew it was going to be a good night for the Lakers. After a brief back and forth the Lakers earned a 12-6 lead. The lead continued to grow thanks to kills from
Cara Simplicio and
Priscilla McReynolds. It was a final set from
Mya Bush to McReynolds that finished off the Blue Devils in the first set, 25-19.
In the second set, The Blue Devils hung around playing the Lakers to a 10-10 tie midway through. Then, multiple service aces from
Mya Bush forced a Fredonia time out, which only paused the Lakers momentum before
Emily Zeisler sent home a kill,
Cara Simplicio delivered an ace, and the lead built to 18-11. That lead was large enough to hold until
Kalley Vugteveen served up an ace to win the second set, 25-18.
It was Fredonia who jumped out to a small lead in the third set, but the Lakers knew what was on the line and kept their energy high.
Kalley Vugteveen delivered 8 straight serves that included a kill from Simplicio, two aces, and a few Fredonia errors to create a 15-7 lead. After the Blue Devils gained three points,
Mya Bush set up Lillian Byrne for a kill placing the Lakers closer to their playoffs hopes. Finally, the Blue Devils sent a service error for the final point and, 25-18, and the Lakers officially earned a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs!
